This guy's a Phd? What is there to "figure out"? It's pretty damn easy to boost the price of anything if you're in gubbermint - just harass the hell out of the people who produce it (i.e. do what you normally fucking do.)
This quote is from 2008. He was saying that raising gas prices to that level was the only way to get people to conserve. Of course since the larger portion of the cost of a gallon of gas in in taxes, conservation would cause a decrease in revenue, then they would have to raise taxes. . . .didn't we just have this conversaton on another thread?
The biggest part of the cost of gas is the taxes on it. What Chu is trying to figure out is how to do it without being dragged out & beaten by an angry mob.
This is the same thing carol browner expressed during her EPA job under bubba clinton. Her wording was essentially that it was not fair that we in the U.S. didn’t have to pay as much for gas as the unfortuante Europeans had to pay. Not that it was unfair they had to pay so much more. This takeover has been going on for decades.
The main difference in the price of gas between us and anyone else is the taxes and transportation costs.
Australia is complaining about $8 a gallon gas, but they don't produce their own and the Enterprise from Star Trek isn't teleporting it to them.
Europe is paying tons more in taxes than we are on gas, so they should complain to their government, who is trying to figure out how to pay for all the freebies the people are getting! Isn't socialism fun?
