Subway ‘Crisis’: Is Footlong Sub Really 11 Inches?

Subway ‘Crisis’: Is Footlong Sub Really 11 Inches?: Subway, eat less! Seriously though, it is unfortunate that the news can’t devote as much attention to all the product/packaging downsizing that has gone into hiding the Obama inflation that is gutting our purchasing power.

      "Gimme"

      I know all your desires
Your heart is so full of pain
Is there something I can provide
When you feel like life's passed you by

      I'm on your side
      Gimme this gimme that (8x)

Please don't ask me my name
Does it matter I'm just here for you
Trust me just let yourself go
And that's all you need to know

      I'm on your side
      Sincerely
      I'm your only friend
      Yes I'm on your side
      Sincerely

Don't you wish you had it all
Don't you deserve to have it all
Kneel down and tell me what you need

Fame and money all for you
I can make your every dream come true

      Gimme this gimme that (8x)

Tell me whose more important than you
You're the apple of my ancient eyes
How could the world be so cruel
I'll make you my own precious jewel

      I'm on your side
      Sincerely
I'm the only one that cares
      Yes I'm on your side
      Sincerely

Don't you wish you had it all
Don't you deserve to have it all
Kneel down and tell me what you need

Fame and money all for you
I can make your every dream come true

      There is one thing
I mean everything has a price
I really hate to repeat myself
      But nothing's free

      Yes I'm on your side
      Sincerely
I'm the only one that cares
      Oh I'm on your side
      Sincerely

Don't you wish you had it all
Don't you deserve to have it all
Kneel down and tell me what you need

Don't you wish you had it all
Don't you deserve to have it all
Don't you wish you had it all
Don't you deserve to have it all
Kneel down and tell me what you need

Fame and money all for you
I can make your every dream come true

  • What? The footlong is only 11 inches. I'm being cheated. The government should do something about that. Appoint a Measurement Czar, with a huge staff. Oh wait, I never buy the footlong, only a 6 inch, which is probably 5 1/2 inches.

    • You do realize the irony of using the term "Czar" when trying to describe what you think a "socialist" government is, right?

      • We are talking about Pres. Obama's USSA not Premier Stalin's USSR. Comrade O uses the term Czar and President rather than Nomenklatura and Premier as he most likely should. But okay, if I am to be correct regarding the DNC/CP-USSA hierarchy from now on, I will refer to Obama as Premier or Chairman and his myriad of do nothing "Czars" as the Nomenklatura. It is more accurate anyway.

        • Actually crowley, the Russian people had sh!tty lives under the Czars, & things were no better after the revolution in 1917. The Russians have a very sad history, & whether it's moronic royalty or marxist socialists, the people were subjugated. They paid a massive price in WW2, got little in return, & deserved better.

For the record, my family on my old man's side split Odesa during this time. Owned a small buisiness, ran a taylor shop, then Bolsheviks shot up the place. I'll also add that I had relitives that died in Dachau in Poland at the hands of the Nazis. So when I say I hate socialists, I really mean it. When I see what we call "czars" today, acting in the name of socialism, but called "progressives", you can excuse me for for being pissed.

  • I noticed the stealth inflation via package shrink when I tried using recipes from old cookbooks. Where a recipe called for a 16-oz can of something, what I found in the stores were 14.5 oz cans.

    • Yep. I just figured out that the tuna cans at the grocery store are now 5.5 oz. Who ever looks at the weight of a can, or remembers what the last tuna cans they bought weighed? It's the same size the can always was. But they added more water to make up the volume. Shameful.

Incidentally, for some reason Costco has packs of 7 ounce cans. Which end up being cheaper than the grocery store cans, and don't mess up the recipe.

      • How could you possibly mess up a tuna recipe by adding more tuna? Ok, now I gotta go make a sammich.

        • No - the 5.5 oz. cans mess up the recipe. My daughter's absolute favorite meal is tuna patties. The recipe is embarrassing, but they ARE fantastic, lol.

(1 can tuna, mostly drained, 1 box turkey/chicken stuffing mix, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 egg, 1/4 cup of milk. Mix together, let sit at least 10 minutes, then shape in 3" patties. Fry till golden brown on both sides in 1 tbs oil and 1 tbs butter.)

Anyway the smaller cans mean that the patties are more stuffing and less tuna. Still good, but no where near as delicious. I started doubling the recipe and adding 3 cans of tuna, but the bigger cans work nicely with just 2.
