Surprise: Government has been wrong about cholesterol for 40 years

Surprise: Government has been wrong about cholesterol for 40 years. They can’t tell you what the weather will be like tomorrow either. But they sure can tell us the effects of global warming 100 years from now.

  • I blame global warming... which is a much fresher hoax if you don't link it to the imminent ice age of the '70s..

  • I will be 53 this year and take zero medications. Part luck/genes but mostly I think it's cardio and anaerobic exercise. I stay very active and still eat tons of red meat and a fair amount of sugar not to mention moderate amounts of beer and wine I'm telling you it is the exercise.

  • You have not seen the end of the cholesterol hoax. This is one of the biggest mistakes by medicine since blood letting. I would say leeches, but we are using those again. As a cardiologist, I have not been able to find a single disease that is caused by cholesterol. Now, high cholesterol is associated with CV disease, but so is brown hair. Lowering the cholesterol does absolutely zip as far as effecting CV disease. But taking statins reduces your chance of an MI by 3% per year, if you have already had the first MI. For the average individual, that reduction is much, much less. Of course, you must take the maximum amount of the statin and 50% of people will experience debilitating symptoms. So, what causes heart disease? Inflammation. That is the sum total of information we have about the inflammation as we have been stuck on stupid for over 50 years.

    • Uh Oh! Now you did it! You told us you're a doctor, and gave medical information!
Now the pretend nurse from Hell will show up and "correct" your information, because it knows everything.

  • There is incredible amounts of fraud going on over cholesterol and statins. If you read the studies, the numbers will say one thing, and the written conclusions another. If you follow the money, it goes straight to some HUGE pharmaceutical companies and the government agencies that shill for them. It's the old "manufacture a crisis, hype it, and profit from it."

To sum up the main study that they base most of this from (the Oslo Study, a scientific study that should go down in infamy for the amount of human misery it caused), if you were given the choice of dying from a heart attack or cancer in 3 years, which would you choose? I say the heart attack is the cadillac way to go, myself -- at least it's quick and doesn't impoverish my family or (for the indigent) society.

    • This isn't surprising.
My Dr had me on statins for years. When my liver enzymes went nuts, I did a little research and found it was the statins. I have a friend that retired from big pharma, and told me that there were reports that you're better off with cholesterol than statins. I quit the statins and within a month, my liver was back to normal.
My Dr just gave me a hard time about my cholesterol, it's 235. I gave her lip service about watching my diet, which I know is bull. Cholesterol is produced by your body, and levels are genetic. I'll take my chances and ignore the alarmists.

  • So the same people said cholesterol was bad make weather predictions? No wonder this country is screwed up.
