The kinder, gentler Defense Department has come up with a new policy that’s sure to amuse and amaze our enemies and kill our troops. They’re treating the Taliban like trout, catching them and then releasing them.

The Washington Examiner has the stunning story:
Several Taliban detainees who had been captured in February after being observed placing bombs in the culverts of roads used by civilians and military convoys near Kandahar were fed, given medical treatment, then released by American troops frustrated by a policy they say is forcing them to kick loose enemies who are trying to kill them.
Despite what American soldiers say was a mountain of evidence, which included a video of the men planting the bomb and chemical traces found on their hands, there was nothing the soldiers who had captured them could do but feed and care for them for 96 hours and then set them free.
Surely these were isolated incidents. It’s too insane to be policy, isn’t it? Unfortunately, no.
In another incident, members of a unit attached to 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment survived an attack by a suicide bomber on their convoy when his device failed to detonate. Soldiers managed to capture the would-be martyr, but he too was released after being held for four days.
“We put our lives on the line to capture the enemy,” a soldier with the Stryker regiment told The Washington Examiner. “Since my deployment, every insurgent we’ve captured has been released.”
International Security Assistance Forces officials contacted by The Examiner admitted that releases like these were common. The officials said ISAF forces can hold detainees for up to 96 hours, during which time detainees are “screened and a decision is made whether to release the individual, transfer them to appropriate Afghan authorities, or to the detention facility in Parwan [at Bagram Air Base].”
…American troops say the policy is a morale killer. They say the inability to hold suspected insurgents is one of the reasons why the U.S. has been unable to suppress the Taliban.
Morale killer? Our troops should consider themselves damn lucky if morale is all that gets killed as a result of this insane policy.
Just when you think this administration can’t get any crazier…

Obama made it clear he would side with the Muslims. The Saudi royal family paid for his Harvard "education" and what little we know of his history makes it plain whose side he is on. Hint: It isn't America's.
How about we stop capturing the Taliban and just shoot them? Much as I love and appreciate our troops, their leadership is SH*T or they would be doing something about this. Like arresting the CinC for high treason, maybe?
"The Saudi royal family paid for his Harvard “education”
Ok, don't get me wrong, I don't doubt what you're saying, but I haven't heard of this before. Do you have someplace we can see some documentation of that? If so, let's see it. It would make another great argument against him. But if it's just a rumor, I won't repeat it. I want to fight the man with substance, not hearsay.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2445630/posts There is a ton of documentation, some legit, some not, that backs up the premise that the Saudis paid for Obama's Harvard experience.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD068xXkCZc Interview with Percy Sutton where he talks about Khalid al-Mansour's involvement with getting Obama into Harvard.
http://www.newsmax.com/KenTimmerman/obama-sutton-saudi/2008/09/03/id/339914 Timmerman is one of the finest investigative journalists out there, IMO. He makes the connections between Sutton-al-Mansour-the House of Saud and Obama pretty clear.
Frankly, I haven't seen the Saudis or Obama, or anyone closely affiliated with them, say this is true. But do you really expect them to? I've seen enough to convince me that it is true. Look around and consider it, then decide for yourself.
There is a reason this man has kept his past so carefully hidden, and has spent millions to do it. The Obama rabbit hole goes deep and anyone who has concrete proof of anything is likely dead or hiding in order to remain alive.
Thanks, that's what we were looking for. Now, when I have a few spare hours, I'll take a look at all that. It's a lot of info.
I think O'Reilly said it is not true. If you go to his website or online on youtube or something for the past week or so I am sure he mentioned that his education was not paid by international money or something to that effect. If I remember I may try to find it.
Bill O'Reilly is entitled to his opinion, but can he prove how Obama paid for a very expensive education at Harvard? Does anyone know? Nope. It's all hidden.
I wasn't paying attention, I am going to be real with you. I just remember the mention of foreign private student aid, but there was no mention of the Saudi Royal Family and he didn't provide proof other than it was made up. As I wasn't paying much attention not sure if he spoke about it later on with more specificity. However with all of that said, since YOU brought it up, I think it is only fair that the burden of proof is on you. And I see, that you have posted links which was the appropriate thing to do and I will look into those. Thank you. It WOULD explain quite well the fact that he bowed and kissed the Saudi Royal family's ass. I am willing to believe anything about Obama, but like RHG said it is better to fight with substance than hearsay.
I totally understand your position. Problem is, everything about this man is hearsay. He has hidden all the substance. We have to go with a logically-derived conclusion based on what [mostly circumstantial] evidence we have. Clearly, our best bet with him is to vote him out. Sowing reasonable doubt in the minds of voters is a good strategy to that end, I think. Even the "birther" issue lends itself to that, though I doubt we will ever know the truth.
I've been lurking around here for a while and always enjoy the regular posters' well-reasoned arguments, so I'm fine that you guys called me on an unsubstantiated claim. Right to do it, too.
Cheers!
Cheers!
Thank you sir.
If Obama cares no more for our soilders than that then it is time to bring them home, seal our borders, and drill our own oil. Well at least he was for the first one before he was against it. If he gets re-elected, I don't know, I think I'll just give up and head for the hills.
The war in Afghanistan has degenerated into a deadly farce---releasing captured Taliban will result in more dead Americans. This policy is absurd and contemptible, imagine if we had released captured German soldiers in WWII. Obama and his administration must be condemned by the American public and Congress. Time to bring the troops home before any more die for nothing.
Disgusting. I don't have any better words for it.
Absolutely.
I just have trouble trying to imagine the frustration of our men and women in uniform, trying to do their job under these kinds of policies. These are our brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, kids, out there, being killed, and for what. KILLED! Does anybody in D.C. understand the gravity of that word! KILLED! DEAD! And all the politicians can come up with is politically correct crap to appease Muslims. Ok. I found the words I was looking for. I'm pissed. I want the names of the people responsible for this.
Well and succintly put, RHG. Woulda given 100 thumbs up if I coulda.
And once again, it's not the soldiers who loose the war, but the politicians. Thanks a lot, you dipwads in Washington.
We are encumbered with idgit Liberals.
And we are appalled at Kill Squads?
TSA, Patriot Act, war on terror... when you release people who just tried to kill you, and you don't care about protecting your own borders that anyone can just walk across (and then get drivers licenses and handouts and free medical care), what's the point?
Clearly, it's time to end this charade and bring them all home.
All we are doing is supporting people who hate us. They don't like us, they like what we have to offer. Once they get what they want, it'll be back to business as usual, killing us off in the name of their pedo prophet. They hate just to hate, and when we try to help, they hate us more. Let them live in their caves, and bring out troops home. God bless our soldiers, who risk their lives every day.
I have to agree. This is insane. If they are not going to capture them and imprison them they have no business being there in the first place. This "policy" is incredible and it is self-defeating.
What? You don't like the way it worked in Vietnam? But that worked out so well.
And it's kept the crime rate in Los Angeles so low.
You were sleeping and dreaming when you wrote that right? ;-)
Dreaming, being sarcastic. It's all the same sometimes.
