Consider this story proof positive that America doesn’t have a complete monopoly on lunatics. They come in every shape, size, color and nationality.
That being said, we must say that Tanzanian lunatics are crazier than your average lunatic. They actually believe their AIDS can be cured if they rape an albino.
Reuters has the bizarre, horrible story:
Hundreds of albinos are thought to have been killed for black magic purposes in Tanzania and albino girls are being raped because of a belief they offer a cure for AIDS, a Canadian rights group said on Thursday.
At least 63 albinos, including children, are known to have been killed, mostly in the remote northwest of the country.
“We believe there are hundreds and hundreds of killings in Tanzania, but only a small number are being reported to the police,” Peter Ash, founder and director of Under The Same Sun (UTSS), told Reuters.“There is belief that if you have relations with a girl with albinism, you will cure AIDS. So there are many girls with albinism who are being raped in this country because of this belief, which is a false belief.”
Around 1.4 million Tanzanians among a population of 40.7 million have the HIV virus that leads to AIDS.
Albino hunters kill their victims and harvest their blood, hair, genitals and other body parts for potions that witchdoctors say bring luck in love, life and business.
“(It is believed) a person with albinism is a curse. They are from the devil, they are not human, they do not die, they simply disappear,” said Ash.

IIRC, in Victorian times, the purported cure for syphilis was sex with a virgin -- so ignorance has had a high cost in western society as well.

Ignorance is a factor and so is plain evil ways. The main difference with your examnple is that unless it was the case and I doubt it, men did not subsequently cut up babies, women and children in order to cure themselves from syphilis. Yes it is always the innocent that suffer and like hisham said justice will be served at some point in time.

It has always been that way and in the end, it doesn't mean that you are better than me or that I am ridiculous or stupid because I have opinions that different from yours. That has nothing to do though with the fact that your attitude does suck and it is demeaning and you have never apologized, nor admit that your demeanor is whack (even if your opinions are valid or acceptable to others). I dont have to agree with you, nor viceversa, but I have always managed to respect you, I dont see why you couldn't manage to do the same. If there are crimes that cry out to heaven for vengence, and I believe there are, this has to be one of them!
There was a documentary on PBS about the killing of albinos in Tanzania. One woman had her arms cut off, another woman's 7 or 8 month old baby was dragged out of their hut during the night and murdered. They told the mother that is she screamed for help they would kill her other children, so she had to stay there with her other children listening to her baby die. I just cant imagine that kind of horror, to be so helpless against such evil. These people who are doing this need to be killed, every single witch doctor who demands limbs to be macheted off innocent babies and deffenseless men and women. All because these people are born albino.
This story i mentioned above still haunts me today, and i think of it everytime i see or hear about albino people.
I agree, there should be a death penalty imposed upon them when they are caught. This is of course a method of control. These same witch doctors (there and in other countries) also ask for the death of missionaries and native Christians because they work against them.
Some people can be convinced of anything.
