Teddy Kennedy’s career explained: “He suffered a tremendous blow on the head”

Burton Hersh, described by US News as Teddy Kennedy’s “lifelong biographer”, has moved from writing biographies to rewriting history.

Newsweek’s Washington Whispers has the details:

Now, a year after Kennedy died, his lifelong biographer Burton Hersh, armed with fresh interviews with Kennedy’s mistress at the time, tells Whispers that the whole July 1969 episode should have been handled as a simple crash, leaving the senator’s legacy untainted. “It was a car accident,” he says. “Ted was a terrible driver. He never paid much attention to where he was going.”

“He took a tremendous blow on the head,” says Hersh. In interviews following the crash, Kennedy displayed confusion and amnesia, he says.

A tremendous blow on the head? We think Hersh left a few words out of that last sentence. If should have read:

“In interviews for the next 40 years after the crash, Kennedy displayed confusion about the meaning of the Constitution and amnesia about his role in killing Mary Joe Kopechne.”

  • Some really great comments boys. I don't even need to say anything more, you've all covered very well. Oh, just one thing, is a biased media still a free media?

  • “He took a tremendous blow on the head,” says Hersh. In interviews following the crash, Kennedy displayed confusion and amnesia, he says.

...which appear to be the primary requirements for being a Democrat Senator.

BTW, all flames will be nonchalantly ignored just to really tork you off. ;-p

  • "low blow to the head" ....so that's where Bill Clinton learned to define "sexual relations" ... (that he did not have)
    mv

    • Yeah Al, which is odd considering how politicos from Massachusetts seem to have a propensity for having huge jug-heads...

    • Well, one thing you can say about 'ol shovel ready ted:

Unlike his two brothers, he stayed bought. Evidently it only takes a couple reminders to soak in.

  • so much amnesia he named his dog splash, and laughed about the accident when asked about his dog's name.
Unreal these people and their unmitigated gall and lack of respect for anyone.
I just hope that ted is knee deep in flames, getting a pineapple jammed up his ass, sharp leaves first all day every day down in hell!

  • Ol' Drunk One's only problem was that the wrong person died in that crash. It should have been Teddy boy. The whole Kennedy Klan is/was nothing but thugs and criminals, starting with poppa Joe.

  • I'll say the SOB never paid attention to where he was going. To work Obama's tired metaphor over one more time, he did his best to drive his nation off a cliff.

...and who gets a 'lifelong biographer'? WTF is that? Is there any other kind of biography?

...and finally, there's nothing in his life that can't be explained just fine by a bottle of Jack Daniels and loose morals. (If you can't define loose morals as cheating on his wife with a mistress, while cheating on his mistress with some random staffer that he left to drown rather than try to explain the missing underwear then there ain't no needle in your moral compass -- either that, or it's spinning faster than in the Bermuda Triangle.)

Men can't sink that low all on their own -- they have to work at it.

    • ‘lifelong biographer’ - might be like the media maggot that follows Sarah Palin around.

Or it could be some kind of Kennedy-worshiper who started early in Ted's career under the assumption that he could later ride the gravy train by writing nice-nice "history" about Ted.

      Don't know, don't care.

  • , driving off a bridge and killing your passenger is a WHOLE LOT better than dabbling in Witchcraft as a teen!

I asked Mary Joe Kopechne about this ... she had no comment.
