Tesla: another loan, please. $635 million wasn’t enough? Making affordable cars? Affordable for who? The rich? The Roadster base price is $109,000 and the new Model S base price is $57,400. We smell another Solyndra in the works.

I saw one of those tesla electric cars going down the road in Newport Beach last month. Nice looking car but has no chance of surviving unless they put a gasoline engine in it and lower the price.
They come with a gasoline engine. Called a Lotus.
Tesla is a public company and also has a partnership deal with Toyota. It seems likely their technology is not total crap. But in that case, they should be able to raise more capital by selling more shares to the public or getting some dough from their deep-pocketed partner, Toyota. There's no need to involve a miserable capital allocator like the US gubbermint, unless the markets and/or Toyota want a heftier risk premium for the investment. When you have a questionable investment, you always go to the stupidest guy with the most money.
Maybe Alon needs the cash to supplement his toxic divorce. http://goo.gl/QGueK
