Where in the hell are the parents? What is next, a drafting class is encouraged to draw up " educational camps". It's time to take the schools back and kick the communist indoctrinators to the unemployment lines.
As I noted earlier, the parents may not know. If this assignment for interest was completed in class, the parents would never know it had been assigned. I think its time is limited at this point.

That sixth grader's creation looks like the old flag of the Soviet Union with a crown on top, probably reflects the wishes and desires of the teacher.
Next week it's a draw your favorite communist contest. So many to choose from: Lenin, Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Fidel Castro, Barack Obama.
I'm not sure where the bad is here. You can't choose or reject socialism unless you understand what it is. So at some point you have to start figuring that out. I guess my concern would be whether or not 6th graders CAN understand the difference. All I cared about in the 6th grade was getting good grades - and getting into the 7th grade.
I appreciate your optimism, but if you think the lesson plan has them studying the dire effects of socialism and the tens of millions of lives lost to communist tyranny during the 20th century... well, you haven't been in a public school in a while.
Yeah, there was no mention of these kids being asked to UNDERSTAND the difference be tween various forms of government and what really bothers me about the educational system is that they will NEVER be asked or required to read Ayn Rand's "Capitalism, The Unknown Ideal". By the time they get to college they won't be ALLOWED to read it. I read it in 1972 just before I graduated from college and no one would speak to me after that.
Next week it's a draw Chairman Mao contest.
Followed by a draw Barack Obama contest?
That's easy, I draw a big empty circle with two giant ears and a fly in the center...did I win?
How about a draw Mohammed day?
Why? so we could see hundreds of pictures like this?

Wonder how they'd react -- speaking of which, Alien -- to a flag for a nice new =National= Socialist country. Or the flag of Angola -- which features a big machete in place of the hammer . . . or the flag of Mozambique -- which features an AK-47, and which I can only assume is full selective-fire.

Did you read the comments? It is very difficult to get into this program if you are NOT a teacher, and apparently many were unaware this was being foisted on their children. If anything, Texas schools are generally TOO conservative ( I really think they need to shut up about Darwinism) so I have no idea how this got smuggled into the curriculum. Certainly the books are inspected to the last letter and period. Hopefully this will be eliminated soon. I wish they had listed either the districts who use it or the ones that don't!

wow... i remember we used to draw swastikas with hammer-and-sickles on the end of each of the terminating points--inside of a pentagram--when we were like 11-12.. because that was the evilest thing we could imagine at the time
But this, unless the context is very very solid--say, instruction in the identification of the symbologies deployed by propagandists of authoritatarian regimes--is just weird
and the hits just keep on coming!
