We’re all – all of us except the Ron Paul fanatics, that is – looking for a Republican candidate who can get us excited about his or her candidacy. And we’re all having a little trouble finding that person, because all our choices seem a bit flawed.
Maybe Texas Governor Rick Perry is the answer. He looks presidential. He has a big success story to tell. He has a big stack of Texas electoral votes in his pocket. And when he spoke to last weekend’s Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans the crowd seemed to sense that there was something different about this guy.
He sounded like the kind of candidate we could support when he said, “Our opponents on the left are never going to like us, so let’s quit trying to curry favor with them!”
By the time he left the stage, the crowd was on their feet chanting, “Run, Rick, Run!” We agree with the crowd.
Here’s his entire speech. All 25 inspiring minutes of it.

I admit that I liked the part of the speech in which Perry said we should stop apologizing for conservative beliefs. I've been somewhat suspicious of Perry though since I heard he mandated the HPV vaccine for Texas girls in 2007. In my opinion this vaccine has caused death or disability to a number of young women. I see a scenario in which Perry and Bachmann split the conservative vote while Romney sneaks through to the nomination much as McCain got the nomination in 2008 while Huckabee and Romney battled for the conservative vote.
He got paid. We all know that he got paid. I think that should be a private discussion between girl/parent/doctor. I am so freaked out to realized that if I had been a girl I would have been forced to take that crap. *shudders*. I would hope my Mom would have totally started hell. I need to ask her. I would totally started hell on anyone telling me I had to allow my daughter to do it.
Forced medication, huh? Sounds a bit totalitarian to me.
It is. It is a vaccine to prevent HPV, but the just in case vaccine is assuming that a 12, 13, 14, or 15 (till 18 I belive) year old girl will start having sex in order to be in a position to prevent HPV. It is disgusting on a lot of levels. It should be a private matter. No Governor of a state should take it upon himself to make this decision, especially when he was told the vaccine was too new and there could be complications for the girls later on in their lives and as someone said it seems to be the case.
Well, Kimmy. I guess that just illustrates the absurdity of letting politicians make health care decisions for us.
Exactly.
Take it from this horse's mouth. You do NOT wnat to vote Rick Perry as anything, not even head dog-catcher. For 3 years he has been running for President, all the while assuring us that he had no intention of running. We are "in the black" only after massive cuts to an education system that is already in the bottom 2-3 of the all the states. He refused money from the Federal GOvenrment at one turn, then bitched when he didn't get it in another instance. The (in)famous trans Texas corrider was to take a great deal of private land, evem cutting throughthe meddle of the property in some cases. And the while Texas tax payers would have paid for the building of the toll road (that's right, you had to PAY to use it) all the tolls would go to the private company Perry had lined up to run it. Trust me, when you consider this ass for office, be smart, and pass him on by.
It was either bad or worst. I went for bad. If there was someone else that was better I would have not voted for him. However for President hell to the no!!!!!!!
Really, the only thing I like about him at this point, is that he took Texas, in the same condition as the U.S. was, and turned its economy around by leaving it the hell alone! Now Texas is the only state in the black. I don't like that he let his state back down on the TSA bill last month, and only reintroduced it onto the legislative agenda AFTER Texans pushed him into back-pedal mode. I feel he should have told his state Senate that they should grow a back bone and tell the TSA/Federal government to shove it. Even if the Senate had still backed down, he would have been seen as having tried to do right by Texans. Maybe even if he tried to get together with other governors, similar to the obamacare suit, and sue the government on these pat-downs, I would have been happy. But, he just let the whole thing die.
If only we could get Coddington to primary against Obama...sigh.
In character, or out?
While the great Barack Obama and I do share a lack of experience, similar ideologies and a background of being deeply embedded in the government bureaucracy, I could never hope to keep up with his hectic golf schedule.
Regards,
R. Coddington Fahrnsworth
"I could never hope to keep up with his hectic golf schedule."
ha, ha, ha
73 games of golf and counting. Three wars going on, bad economy, joblessness, morons in school (both teachers and students).
A reporter remarked that when G. Bush gave up golf due to the wars (that he did start WITH --- mark it--- WITH Congress) he was disparaged and ridiculed by the liberal media. However, when he did continue for a short while to play golf after 9/11 he was disparaged, and insulted. G. Bush could not win. Damn if he did and damn if he did not. Things are worst now than during his Presidency but no one has a problem with Obamie playing his golf nor that his wife takes vacation on our money. Brown skinned Evita is doing her Rainbow Tour Part Deux and everyone is just ai'ight with that. If he were to give up his golfing who in the media wouldn't take the time to say that he is being so appropriate for doing so? Shoo... Chrissy Tingles will probably explode in ecstasy. Obama wins no matter what he does. This is the only difference between him and Jimmy Carter. I am sure J. Carter is not loving the Obama love.
Really, are you surprised?
Nope. Just stating the facts. Someone has to.
Actually many have a problem with him playing golf and such. The left wing media even has commented on it on occasion. That is how bad it is getting for Obama - his loyal subjects are turning on him. Heck I heard a stalwart Obama supporter get on to him for stuff like this a few weeks back.
The only people that I have heard that have a bit of an issue with the golfing has been on Fox. However, I do not really watch MSNBSC or whatever so you could be right, I just haven't heard libs commentators have much of a problem with it. I just wish more libs would open their eyes.
Well I've heard it on CNN - doubt MSNBC would say anything. But also the real life factor is in there - I hear people talking about it. That is what really matters.
Oh I don't watch CNN either but truck stops around here have it on. I can't exactly close my ears when I'm in line to pay for stuff, heh.
I don't watch Communist News Network so I guess I missed it but yeah it is a good thing that at least it being talked about beside conservatives.
I agree with JustAl. I have no love for Perry. I had to vote for him becuase the other option was awful. Yes he is doing all the right capitalistic moves, but he is a RINO on social issues. I also think he is a little corrupt.
So the guy can preach. So what? The only issues he's actually pushed from the Constiutionally very weak position of Texas govenor were force immunizations for school girls and the trans Texas corridor to rush more chi-com goods into north America.
He was Al Gore's Texas campaign chair! This guy will absolutely tell anybody what they want to hear. The same guy who immidiatly said the AZ immigration law "wasn't for Texas" before getting his ears pinned back by public opinion.
Giving this guy, or any politician credit for the Texas economy is like giving a fisherman credit for the tide because he lives by the sea. The Texas legislature only meets for a few months every other year, and, under the state Constitution can't spend more than "projected" revenue (we're still in debt because of that word "projected"). And the state Constitution doesn't give the governor enough power to screw things up. That is why Texas has weathered this economic downturn better than the rest of the country. . . just like every other economic downturn in living memory.
Perry won't do anything for conservatives until/unless he is absolutely forced to. I've been in Texas for over 20 years and talk politics with a lot of people, and I've yet to meet anyone I consider a conservative who backs this guy.
Even the great and hallowed Reagan was flawed. It is the way they over come their flaws is what we need to look at.
One thing I wonder about: How in the heck did Romney become the front runner? I Swear it is just because the media "made it so."
Romney appeals to lots of the fence sitters who voted for the current occupant because they believe the paper money the government prints has value because the government prints it. They voted for the current occupant because they had to get rid of Bush. They have no freaking idea about anything that the governmedia doesn't tell them.
Romneycare is State level Obamacare and they want that. What is the difference as long as the government, State or Federal is paying. Hell, they don't even realize the difference! The drastic collapse of the IQ of our nation will be our undoing. Relax and watch American Idol. This governing stuff is too complicated so whoever the TV says is the smartest person is who they'll vote for. It is really very simple as long as you don't think.
I agree. I have no idea either. I have a feeling that the liberal media is doing some maneuvering.
XD how did you get a thumbs down for agreeing with something I said? heh that is funny.
There are a lot of haters in this site, or two or three (who knows perhaps more) that like to create several accounts or sign out and then vote. In some threads my posts and maybe hisham's if he is in there are the only ones with votes down.
Oh I get voted down much as well, I just have times where I don't comment a lot on this site. I don't care if the down/upvotes have names attached to them. Usually there are many, many more upvotes than down. Besides I think it'd keep people from voting on either side.
If people want to hide, so be it. Everything comes out eventually :)
BTW My favorite downvote is when you look at a thread and everyone has just 1 thumbs down XD. Yeah like that isn't obvious...
I didn't care much about voter ID till the anonymous censorship kicked in a couple months back.
I don't look at it as censorship. I always click on your posts to see what you wrote. I rarely click on Olivia's -- not so much because her opinion has no value, but because she's so damned wordy. It doesn't help that her quoting style irritates the hell out of me. I find it misleading and overly ambiguous -- until you learn that that's her way of replying to people, you're stuck trying to figure out if she's for or against anything.
Once you *do* figure it out, you may wonder: "Gee -- thousands of people can either make their reply clear or manage to use quotation marks to differentiate between the person whose statement she is trying to take apart and her own statements. Why not her?"
I figure she takes a sort of perverse pride in being "different", but it is more "annoying", "pointless", "misleading", and "disorganized", a clear sign to me that her posts are meant for an audience of Olivia, and no one else -- otherwise, she'd have taken the hint a long time ago and made an attempt at proper attribution. You do not write for yourself. You write for your audience. She don't give a damn about her audience.
Her posts getting hidden are a small mercy to the casual reader of the blog, who is more than welcome to read the OP should the contents of the reply make her response* appear more interesting than it usually is.
*It's always a response -- never a true OP -- proving her to have a thing about being a reactionary with no new ideas -- just simple contradiction -- and I came here to buy an argument:
"M: Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of any statement the other person makes.
(short pause)
A: No it isn't."
After clicking on a few of her posts to read them, the "being-hit-on-the-head" lessons may start to look mighty attractive in comparison to the casual reader.
As usual, you've employed the most clear manner available in the common language of the United States to illustrate the exact sentiment of any clear thinking person with regard to the problematic style employed in posts. What the heck is with all that repeat, rinse, repeat, turn corner, prevaricate, attempt to alter topic of focus, repeat? Oh yeah, the liberal styling of the obliberals.
"Is this where I...OOWWWW!"
"No, more like, 'Waah'"
"But... WAAAAHHH!"
"Good, good!"
"Stop hitting me!"
"Stop hitting you?"
"Yes, I want to complain!"
"Oh, that's the third door down the hall. It's 'Getting Hit on the Head' lessons in here."
"What a stupid concept!"
It feels so *good* when you stop, doesn't it.
I argued with her for a while. Life is better now that I just click thumb down and move on.
Censorship would be if her posts were removed from the thread after a number of down votes. As it is, it just makes it easier to pass her by, helping to keep our collective lunch down. Censorship doesn't allow you to click through.
If the site removed posts after the down votes got too much higher than the up votes, I would vote Olivia up every time. I want her opinions to be available to anyone with the time and intestinal fortitude to read them. Like Rush Limbaugh says, "Illustrating absurdity by being absurd."
"As it is, it just makes it easier to pass her by, helping to keep our collective lunch down. Censorship doesn’t allow you to click through."
Exactly it is difficult to navigate. I am not saying to remove her or her posts, just for her to stop stalking people.
I dont care if people know if I voted down. I do have reasons to do so and many times I tell them why but yeah if people want to hide like cowards they can do it. It is all good in the end.
I vote for a name being attached to all upvotes/downvotes
"I vote for a name being attached to all upvotes/downvotes"
Cardcheck?
for once we agree.
curses..! my unblemished record is broken
Dear IHTM,
Look up this guys voting record before you give this guy a hat tip or even an endorsement! He is nothing more than a RINO who is "freshly bilderburg meeting"
approved by the elite-banksters of the world.
This guy is a loser & liar, just like every other RINO.

The records and apparent facts support your succinct statement. A few people have been mentioning this guy and I had to dig back a little bit but sure enough, he is a global occupation supporter. He'd invite the UN in and ban guns and bacon among myriad other things under the auspice of health control. We're gonna have to find a candidate pretty quick who lacks the verifiable evil this man has in his head.
Good site SME, I'm totally convinced that he's the Statist wolf in sheep's clothing, in other words, just another RINO!
I like the Texas story but I am not wild about the "call to prayer".

I think we have to simply stick with core conservative POLITICAL ideas and strategy. Injecting evangelical style religion into the election is NO different than what Obama did when he filled stadiums with his Hope and Change bullshit. Perry strikes me as another Elmer Gantry or, worse, an Obama style narcissist.
Pretty good speech but can he deliver? He and every other real conservative is going to face an uphill battle, not just from the liberal left, but from their own party...isn't that a shame? We have to get rid of the RINO's! We need to stop letting the liberal left define who we are and we need to stop thinking that there is something virtuous about moderate (ie., RINO's) and undecided voters (ie., fence sitters waiting to see who's going to hand them the biggest stash of goddies at our expense)!
