The majority of vehicles where I work have manual transmissions. Due to barrycare we are getting rid of our "full time" employees and replacing them with a greater number of part time/ part time( NO 40 hours / week)workers. This limits us to retired men and college age guys. The old guys can't hack the work and the college guys are totally clueless on how a manual tranny works. You would think we're asking them to land the Space Shuttle when we attempt to instruct them how to release a clutch while giving the engine gas. I don't want to know what their abilities to parrallel park are.
I can't imagine what they would do if you put them in a 15 speed tractor trailer, and asked them to parallel park it, something I did on a city street in Hoboken NJ in the snow, and in NYC at any given time. None of which are simple tasks.

"I had a similar experience with my Mercury minivan. The front parking sensors had stopped working and I figured I might as well bring it to the dealer instead of just randomly replacing sensors, etc. So I paid the ridiculous $99 evaluation fee and they diagnosed the front speaker had gone bad. The part cost $20 and the labor was going to be $1,400 since they had to remove the dashboard to get at it. Needless to say I said forget it. I went home and decided to look underneath the dash with a flashlight where I used to hear the beeps come from, and sure enough there's the speaker right there. So I ordered it from the dealer on the Fordparts.com website for $15, and replacing it took all of 10 minutes. One bolt holds it down and one simple wire clip to attach. Fixed. For $15."
First, I find it sickening that cars now have "parking sensors." What happened to learning to drive? Second, even more sickening, when the automatic system, a failure waiting to happen, failed, a person takes it to the dealer, pays a hundred bucks just to find out what's wrong, and pays another fifteen bucks to fix a system that the car works just fine WITHOUT? I should NOT have to share the road with such non-driving pukes.
