  • The Spanish side of the family started trading for pintos from the pueblo Indians in northern NM in the mid 1700's. Why do you think us old time hispanics around here are called "beaners"? (teehee)

  • This isn't news, smart people have known it forever. Red meat, potatoes and beans, pintos for you uninformed, are all anyone needs to eat.

I drive my doctor crazy. I have never had a digestive problem. Constipation is a problem others have. I have never had a cholesterol problem. I'm in as good, or better, health than most guys my age and nobody know why. As far as I am concerned it's because I don't believe that crap about eating a ton of veggies every day. Plants are food for plant eaters not carnivores, which is what mammals are.

I'm an active guy, for an old fart, and probably burn up 2,500 to 3,000 calories per day. I could eat about 60 average heads of cauliflower per day or I could eat 4 green chili cheeseburgers with bacon per day to keep my energy up. What do ya'll think I'm going to eat? LOL

    • I applaud your basic food froups! Especially pinto beans. I have heard so many family stories where a severe illness was "cured" by feed the affected beans, or even the bean juice! I do thing SOME veggies would round out your diet, since they contain vitamins and minerals that meat does not. And humans are not carnivores. We are omnivores. We eat it all!

  • If the macrobiotic Marxists had their way, of course, there’d be no McDonald’s, Walmart or Exxon, because they have visions of an ideal world in which everybody bikes to work with a handwoven backpack from Etsy that contains a lunch grown in the neighborhood collective.

*SHUDDER* This doesn't sound like a planet that can support my video-game habit

  • Off topic, but the pic right under this entry is Wieners paramore

"The greatest food in human history...wieners paramore"...... Yikes!

    • What could be wrong with whole grains and pure water? Plus, beer tastes a hell of a lot better than a bowl of rice or wheat bran.

    • But you can't put catsup on it, which leaves it stuck in second place. Catsup, you see, is also the greatest food ever.

      • Anyone that would put catsup on a good burger is low enough to drink MD20-20 with a prime rib dinner. (snicker)

        • I put catsup on so many things I wouldn't even try to make a list. I will say this: if I had a nickel for every time someone said, "You put ketchup on THIS!?"

          • Lol...My oldest son is the same way. I'm suprised he doesn't dump a little catsup on his corn flakes in the morning, he puts it on everything else.

          • I have actually gotten away from ketchup for most of the things I used to add it to, but now use BBQ sauce instead.

        • You guys know you can wash down a bacon double cheeseburger/w catsup, with a cold bottle of IPA. Add onion rings and you have, if not THE greatest, surely ONE of the greatest meals .... ever!

          • Many years ago I took my two little girls on a weekend hiking trip. They were used to hiking. They even had their own little packs. But this time I got us lost, and I got us lost after dropping our packs at a road so we wouldn't have to carry them back to the car. So we were lost with nothing to eat and no supplies. After planting them in a safe spot and walking around half the state of Michigan I finally found where we went wrong and grabbed the girls and got us back to the car. It was probably five or six o'clock with nothing to eat since breakfast. We hit the first MacDonald's we saw and it was the tastiest feast in the history of mankind. None of us will ever forget that meal.

    • About 80% of the Micky D's in the country are privately owned, one store franchises. I don't know what you have against a family owning a popular burger joint to try to make a better living but as usual, you are wrong.

    • You don't like it, don't eat it. Some people have little option, since they aren't scamming the government for food stamps to feed themselves and their families, unlike you.

      • You just made yourself sound like a horrible person there by saying that trying to help your family is "scamming the government". I don't even need to reply.

        • But you DID reply. And you are scamming the government. You sit on your ass doing nothing constructive, expecting your parents to care for you when obviously they can't afford to. You could move out and work for a living, like the rest of the normal world, or you could gt a job and pass some of the money along to asist your family with expenses, Either way, you need to go to work, at a real job, and quit sucking off your family. YOU are scamming the government. I don't know about them.

        • They are, that's the problem. It's all the growth hormones and other chemicals that Corporate Greed is pumping into the animals that is making us fat and slowly poisoning us. All for the sake of profit.

          • If you don't like it, don't eat it. Oh wait, you get food stamps. Well you still have the choice to eat better, if not as much. Now Cheetos, THAT'S seriously healthy.

          • personal gluttony and a lack of self-control is what is making people fat. Although, when it comes to GenMan grains you make an excellent point. But then, one is inclined to believe that you have a more pervasive point, that being your noggin.

          • Actually in type one diabetics it is an auto immune disease, not a lifestyle problem. STLL OUR UNDERSTANDING . OF WHAT CONSTITUTE A SERVING IS COMPLETELY OFF. A SERVING OF RICE FROM A chinese place is really about 8-10 servings. Same with pasta. Enough pasta for at least 4 meals, allowing for 2servings.per meal.

          • I bow to your knowledge of nutrition, and your gentle way of reminding me that not all people are biologically normal, that is to say indicative of the entire population.

I was speaking in terms of the general population, without regard for those who suffer from, or live with, as the case may be, metabolic dysfunction.

          • I realize that. But there is a component of overindulgence in Type II diabetes, and our general approach to food in the US doesn't help. And once they have the extra weight, it is very hard to lose, due to those mmetabolic issues. We are fine, I don't accuse you or anything.

          • Lack of activity is making us fat, not beef. And if you don't want force-fed beef with growth hormones and antibiotics, lucky for you corporations give you that option. The beef you want is available everywhere.

          • In a recent attempt to lower my blood sugar, I cut way back on carbohydrates, meaning bread, sugar, potatoes (sweet potatoes are actually good for diabetics), pasta, etc.
In 6 months, I lowered my A1c number by 1.3 points, taking me from diabetic to pre diabetic.
In order to do that and keep from starving, I ate mostly red meat, pork, shellfish (shrimp and crab), chicken, cheese, nuts, seeds, etc. I didn't abandon carbs totally, but cut way back.
In spite of what the nutrition Nazis tell you, not only did I lose weight, but my cholesterol and triglycerides dropped a good bit. They always tell us that red meat will make us fat, increase our cholesterol, and make us sick. I proved this is a lie, and I often eat fast food for lunch, McDonalds, Burger King, Arby's, Wendy's, and Checkers are my favorites, eating the burgers but not the buns or fries is how I do it.

          • South Beach diet. Of course, a limited number of carbs are necessary for energy, but a high protein, lower carb diet with only moderate fat (mostly "healthy fats") is the diet of choice not only for diabetics, but for the majority of people. Certain medical conditions require some tweaking of that diet, but overall its a good plan. Oh, and NO ONE who doesn't specifically have a sensitivity to gluten needs a gluten free diet. It isn't any healthier, and limits your food choices severely.

          • I hadn't figured on following a specific diet, I just know carbs turn into sugar, and I need to lower my sugar. The weight loss was an unintended, yet welcome consequence. I also know no carbs is unhealthy, which is why Atkins doesn't work in the long term.

          • Your diet is whatever you eat. Even if thats chips and soda. You have hit on the magic formula to control blood sugar. And less sugar means less insulin, so you lose weight. Its genius! I cannot imagine why some are stillpushing for 60grams of carbs per meal!

          • And by "some" you mean the stupid government, right? They still have a recommended diet fashioned in the 1950s.

          • I know people love to say no carbs is unhealthy but it's a meaningless warning. What are the chances that any American is going to manage a carb-free diet? Who's going to pass up every cookie, every potato chip, and every crumb of bread that's placed in front of them? I try to avoid carbs but I just ate a baloney sandwich. I try to avoid carbs but last night we visited a Mediterranean restaurant that serves fresh hot bread with garlic butter that nobody in their right mind would pass up. I try to avoid carbs but there's a box of chocolate doughnuts in the kitchen calling my name.

          • JP, I'm Sicilian, if you think it's easy for me to pass up the pasta, garlic bread, pizza, calzones, stromboli, etc, you're nuts!
However, I do it. It takes an immense amount of willpower, but I had to make a decision, go on insulin, or lower my blood sugar. My A1C was 7.6 in January, it is now 6.3. That is a huge improvement.
I quit taking statin drugs 9 months ago because my liver enzymes went real high, I was warned that my cholesterol would go through the roof, but it's only 216, hardly worrisome, and since my triglycerides have dropped quite a bit, the cholesterol number is even less of a concern. BTW, triglycerides have historically been blamed on red meat, which is total bullshit.
Doctors are huge alarmists, and because the gooberment is rabid about heart disease, they push the statins, and when your liver goes bad, they push something else to fix that! Instead of removing the source of the problem, they want to keep adding fixes. If we would simply be more careful about eating crap, we wouldn't need all these drugs. I'm not advocating cutting the delicious snacks out completely, just not making them a staple of our diets. Our grandparents ate all the things the gooberment wants us to avoid, bacon, eggs, beef, pork, etc. but they didn't have the health problems we have from following the gooberment guidelines. Don't evn get me started on BMI.

          • Atkins, baby! You have found the secret to good diet - red meat. Question is: why does the government try so hard to hide the simple fact that we were designed to eat meat? And that tobacco in moderation is good for you? And that alcohol is good for you?

          • "And that tobacco in moderation is good for you? And that alcohol is good for you?"

the omission of the words "in moderation" in the second statement duly noted.

          • I eat a lot of beef and I'm not at all overweight. Pretty sure I'm not poisoned, either. I like corporate profits. That's what keeps the lights on. Pathetic occupiers like you with their incessant greed and willingness to live off the labor of others are the problem. You are a sickening little turd.

          • We wouldn't have to live off the labor of others if Corporate Greed hadn't stolen our gold.

    • Ah, second time of all the days coming here, the rare 3rd thumb-down... even hit refresh to make sure. Sweet.

        • Any critter tastes good with enough butter on it.

found whilst researching a totally unrelated topic. :D

  • Disgusting.

You do realize that's not actual meat, right? It's "pink slime," remnants, dog food and a whole lot of water to make it sizzle.

My biggest argument with right-wing web-sites is that they seem to think that eating like an intelligent adult is somehow "left-wing."

    • After some public outcry, Micky D has rid itself of pink slime. That doesn't make their food gourmet, but there is a certain truth to the article. Poor people can't afford the lean protein-low fat-low carb diet that is being recommended. So they eat what they can afford. Fast food is tasty, cheap, and readily available. So that's what they eat.

    • Well, I'm not much for MacDonald's food myself, but the pink slime scandal was a leftwing manufactured tizzy about nothing. And now they don't use it anymore. Basically, what the scare mongers labeled pink slime was a process used to prevent bacteria contaminating the meat. I'm okay with preventing bacteria from contaminating the meat - call me crazy. I drink beer and whisky, I love hot dogs, and I never met a doughnut I didn't like, but my parents are both alive at 94 so I figure I'm good to go. And if I'm down on my luck (which seems to happen periodically) I appreciate the impossibly low prices at the fast food joints.

  • Chocolate?

    Edit:
Now wait just a rootin' tootin' minit here. The article title here is misleading.

    just sayin.

    edit the second:
i looked at whom contributed... it all makes so much sense now. :D
