The shift from low-wage worker to robot worker. “President Obama’s proposal to increase the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 per hour could make it worthwhile for employers to adopt emerging technologies to do the work of their low-wage workers.” As robots become cheaper and smarter while sooper-genius pols persist in making it more expensive to hire people, this outcome is a no-brainer…. except perhaps to those with no brains.

...unionize or jack the minimum wage high enough & this will be the future. Not too mention that you will be placing your order at a self serve keypad, & presto, no more McJobs. But hey, it's not like having a job matters now anyways, not when you have the nanny state.
That would be great!
But robots would be broken down and stolen by the local unions of moochers and looters for some bath salts, authorization to be applied would also take a looooong time.
At least they won't be shedding hair into my cheeseburgers.
Robots! They will lower cost and increase quality, I say bring them on!
Think of the millions of new jobs that would be created as a result? In the not too distant future, the economy and labor force would most likely be unrecognizable in a good way provided we can get people sufficiently educated and trained. We will, I think, succeed in that area the way we did at the beginning of the tech boom and the industrial revolution.
Industrial maintenance and robotics should be a good occupation for a while. But then before long there will be robots that build and maintain worker robots. Robots will eventually get so smart they will not need us. Where have I seen this before. Lets see, I'll be back.
We can't even imagine yet the new occupations and careers that will come along in the future anymore than my grandparents could have envisioned people writing code or maintaining server farms.
But what if the robots join the steelworker union
We don't produce steel here anymore. We import our steel from China, so the steelworkers union doesn't matter.
Well, they'd speak English, they would take orders ONCE, remember them and repeat the process without being 'reminded' constantly, they wouldn't talk back, wouldn't be late, they wouldn't be working with cellphone in hand ... I could go on but you get the point ;-)
And you don't have to continually check their piss for drugs.
And they could make change!
You could have a bill for $10.61, give them $21.00 and they wouldn't be confused!
