• Well, most Democrats like Sharpton and Timothy Geithner have nothing to worry about.

• Jokes on them. I owe money every year because I adjusted my withholdings.

  • Smart man. I owe every year as well. No sense in giving them a interest free loan on money that, when it finally gets back to you, has less purchasing power than it did when it was withheld.

    • Why let them play with your money and then give it back when they pay no interest, I do the same thing...besides when I send in the check, I can write snide comments on the memo line and then draw a happy face.

      • I have been trying to get that right for a couple of years, but the income is inconsistent, and it doesn't quite work out. This year I had a lottery hit that they automatically took the taxes out of, and I am getting back way more than I wanted them to ever owe me.

        • I would rather undershoot the number than overshoot it. I can pull money out of my savings since I already got the interest from it.

          Will have to calculate the amount of taxes the wife and I pay yearly and go from there. Might be worth it to withhold nothing and write quarterly checks once we have enough in savings.

        • Yea, but I don't want to have to write a big enough check that they penalize me for under withholding. Besides, it would hurt me more to write a big check than get one back.

        • I was going to say "They can charge you more for not withholding enough?"

          Then I realized this is the government we are talking about, of COURSE they can (and will).

          Not that I am giving them any ideas here.

        • When I was working on my taxes this weekend, there was something about a penalty for under withholding.
