What he objects to has nothing to do with free speech. He says there should be a restriction on the amount of money spent (wasted) on campaigns. I agree. He is so stupid, he doesn't understand that isn''t exact;y free speech. Letting him stand there and embarrass himself, now THAT's free speech
Well I'm going to have to disagree with you. In the comments below the article someone tries to say what you're sayiing, that free speech and money spent aren't the same thing, and someone else replies, "What's the difference?" When the government controls what you can SPEND on your free speech, they control your free speech. This isn't conjecture, it's proven fact. During the 2008 election, before the Supreme Court had declared campaign finance laws limiting corporate expenditure unconstitutional, TV stations were refusing to run conservative ads because they either violated the law or Democrats CLAIMED they violated the law. In effect, the conservative message was censored while the liberal message, which comes mostly from union funds unaffected by campaign finance laws, was unaffected.
Free speech means the whole package. If they control what you can spend on it, the only free speech you have is the freedom to whisper in your best friend's ear. You end up with free speech that is guaranteed to go unheard.
In the course of debating the 2nd Amendment with a particular fellow employee during one of my past lives, he suggested my understanding of individual rights - as specifically mentioned in the Bill of Rights a few times for an express reason - was completely wrong because even the right to free speech and expression requires participation by more than one person, so it isn't an individual. Arguing against logic like that means the debate is moot. The person is a victim, give them the entitlement basket.
Nothing is free. Freedom of the press is reserved to those with a press. Remember when printing presses were a singularly large component in the distribution of information? Remember how the became tools of the progressives, intent on disrupting society in order to facilitate the takeover of the United States?
Now we have this thing. For the moment, anyway.
I understand your point. I grew up in an era when some of this was controlled by the FCC,stating if you ran something for one side, you HAD to give equal time to the other. TOday, I guess that makes too much sense. Based on the ads in my area, they really are all colored (i use that term in the psychological sense) to suppport one guy. Much of it is not from the candidate, but from various OTHER groups. THey make accusations such as "Bozo was sued by clients" then conveniently fail to deliver the verdict in that case. The assumption? He was guilty. I really hate that manipulation. I look at the time and money spent on campaigns and think how much of our debt could be covered while that money is frittered away. Makes me furious!
It bothers you because their is no trustworthy mediator of truth and fact. The media should be doing this, but they're absolutely worthless. They add to the problem instead of helping. When groups make untruthful claims in ads, the media should be there holding their feet to the fire and stating the facts. They aren't doing that. They're cheerleading for liberals instead.
Exactly! We can't get anything near an unbiased report on anyone or anything anywhere. Why watch the news? You won't really learn anything anyway!
