• Hey kiddies, let's try ACTUALLY READING the linky. It is, IMHO, woefully short on specifics,and that is a criticism of the writer, not of Trump.

  The sum total of actual substance reads:

  "Trump’s assurance, repeated again: he will make sure that every person in the country has health insurance, and will do so in a way that lowers rates for most Americans. And, he claims, he would do this in a way that actually lowers costs over the long term. In order to help the poorest 25% of the population, Trump said, he’d “make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people.”

  Untwist knickers.

  The article is little more than a switchblade job (it's not long or substantial enough to be a hatchet job) on Trump, who has just released a (barely mentioned here) very Reaganesque outline for Federal income tax reform, which closes loopholes and reduces rates on both natural persons and corporate persons.

  Remember when Ross Perot talked about "gorilla dust"? How gorillas will throw dust in the air to distract a rival in combat?

  You just got dust in yer eyes, folks.

  • Partially agree. First, Trump's health insurance plan is predicated on his ability to make a deal. Big IF. What if the insurers so "no"? Will he go mandate like BHO? Where is the free market in that? Let's assume he does make his deal. How's the access piece going to work out? Doctors like to be paid. A deal between the state and an insurer leaves the doctor and the hospital out of the mix. Hardly an example of free market pricing principles.

    Regarding the tax plan, by eliminating huge swaths of the population from the tax rolls, he exacerbates the dependency problem. Some of his other tax plan components make some sense, which is where we agree but overall I believe the plan is doomed to failure if it were ever enacted, which it won't.

• I'm sick of this scam!

  If it's this expensive to get from the cradle to the grave, then we've jumped the shark with our technology. Why does it cost $5,000 to get my injured knee scanned? Why does that cost keep going up? Because the machine that scans me is top of the line and is obsolete before it's even paid for, and replaced by another one that will be obsolete before it's paid for.

  What happens to all the "obsolete" medical machinery? I'd be happy to be treated with technology from 5 years ago. Hell, medicine 20 years ago wasn't so bad.

  My advice: Keep clean, stay sober, don't take stupid risks, understand that something isn't safe just because it's on your grocery store shelf, and most importantly, stay the hell away from doctors unless there's a broken bone actually protruding from your flesh.

  Unfortunately, they keep closing the net so a person isn't allowed to live on his own. We are being forced to participate.

  • "Why does that cost keep going up?"

    Because there is no "customer" in our medical transactions with an interest in keeping costs down. The patient is generally not involved in the transaction. It's a financial deal between the medical provider and the insurance company, neither of which wants the costs lower, both of whom make more money when costs rise. Try going without insurance for a while, just paying cash, and you will be flabbergasted at the deals you can make with the medical providers.

• Just came in for break and iced tea... The President was on and may I say, I've never been so embarrassed for my country. I watched 4 whole minutes...wondering why I'm going back to work, but I am.

• Aaaaaaand here's the Donald Trump I know about. I was wondering when he'd peek out from behind his mask.

  • That's OK, he can stay in the lead as long as he helps get rid of Jeb. Once that happens, we can actively push for someone we really want. I prefer letting him spend his money getting rid of the RINOs, and the conservatives can spend their money on the real race.
