Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

    • Wow you are right. Something that hasn't been fully discussed in the media is the destruction of decades old companies. Now perhaps it is true that in many cases it is due to lack of updating of their business models, however when companies that lasted 40 or 50 years go bye bye one after the next it is just not a good thing. People need tow ake up.

      • Hostess' truck fleet, the over-the-road trucks, has got to be over 30 years old. They're special ordered, to handle huge volume, that doesn't weigh much. And I don't remember seeing any new ones. Old Freightliner cab-overs. So I know they didn't spend all their money on that.

        As for their products, I don't remember ever having been a fan.

Many companies like Kodak and Blockbuster just didnt keep up with the times, however the truth of the matter is that not only those but other companies have fallen on the wayside more than not because of Unions and a great number of them under Obama. It has become a trend and it is not a good thing.

    • Joe, If you haven't started a twinkie stockpile by now, I don't know what to tell you man. The only thing i can advise is to run and not walk to the store and get yourself two armfuls and do what can with that.

    Oh well, now they get to go on welfare and watch their checks start getting smaller and smaller because they voted for more and more open borders and there are too many people on the public dole to pay everybody.

  • Thousands of union members have now lost their jobs but the well paid union bosses did not lose theirs.

    My son belongs to the steamfitter's union, he and his co-workers have been unemployed 50% of the time in the past four years, yet the well paid union bosses kept telling the rank and file to support Obama and the Democrats.

    • I just got a letter from my union's pension department. The fund is in "critical" condition. Mostly because our members haven't been working much in the last six years. Yet they still tell us to vote for Democrats.
