All these occupussies should have to secure a permit, except that would be too much like the TEA party gatherings for them.
I hope the J-Man is as enthusiastic about my Second Amendment rights as he is about the Fleabaggers' First Amendment rights.
I'm sure he is, actually. J-Man, what's your choice for CC? And the 2nd Am. version of the Coke/Pepsi divide: AK or AR?
Nah, for many 'progressives', the Constitution is taffy they can stretch to cover what they want, but marvelously unclear when they want to ignore it. I once talked to a lib English teacher, who said the constitution was unintelligible, but assigned Shakespeare to his students.
Conservatives see the constitution for what it is, while progressives see it for what it could say.
The cops have been too nice to these a-holes. I get tears in my eyes when see the video of Chicago police doing their thing outside the 68 DNC convention. Recreate 68, indeed.
I think this is my"I told you so moment" from last week when I said one of the local TV stations (KTXL FOX-40) in Sacramento) had played that video tape. For that I had a couple of liberal wackos attack me and say I did not know what I was talking about. Foolish Liberals, their mouth is always in gear but their brains are in neutral. Whats the old saying? Better to stay quiet to prove your not an idiot, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt? (yea I know is probably a little different but I like my version) :)
The tricky part is what makes it real. Better to remain quiet and be thought a fool than to speak and remove any doubt.
Thanks formerly..I knew someone who give me the right quote..I still think mine fits this situation....kind of an updated version.
Something is seriously wrong with you people.
"Oh, they were warned their constitutional right to right to assemble was going to be violated! Well that changes everything! That makes it fine!"
If this was a bunch of Tea Partiers or some conservative group you guys would be screaming for justice against the police.
J, do you have "Zero down; 0% interest; 1,000,000 days same-as-cash" tattooed across your forehead? Because, like Olivia, sheerfire, Lui, Van Bondies, et al, you are easy to OWN!
What a terrible attempt at equivalency!
Neither of those you mention would comport themselves in a manner that would get the law enforcement authorities in a position to force them out.
According to California's "Guidelines for Crowd Management," citizens have the right to assemble but must also be responsible to not abuse the civil rights of others. California law enforcement has an obligation to ensure crowds abide by these laws by following the state's crowd control policy.
According to these guidelines, establishing effective crowd management strategies is required by all law enforcement. These strategies include establishing a chain of command, providing officers with proper training, designating public assembly areas, establishing rules of conduct and defining unlawful activity.
Crowd Dispersal-
Law enforcement may determine a crowd to be unlawful based on reasonable facts. The California Penal Code determines unlawful conduct as "as conduct that poses a clear and present danger of imminent violence." When dispersing a crowd, law enforcement must declare the assembly unlawful and clearly state the crowd is to disperse immediately.
Use of Force-
According to California guidelines, law enforcement must use force that is "objectively reasonable under the totality of the circumstance." Acceptable tactics include, but are not limited to, physical grips, control devices and non-lethal chemical agents. All uses of force must be appropriate to the situation.

We should note that in the hands of civilians, pepper spray is only to be used as a defensive weapon, not unlike a .45 automatic pistol. But when the law enforcement authorities advise people that they must disperse or be dealt with forcefully, pepper spray is an option they may employ legally. Billy clubs, fire hoses and several other methods have been used in the past as well. Hopefully violence can be avoided.
DOUBLE straw man argument FTW!!
Listen, bub. There is a difference between assembling and squatting. Learn it. Straw man 1,
Straw man 2: The reason the Tea Party people never have been *in* that situation is that unlike the serial whiners that compose the entire OWS movement, when told they could not get the permit to assemble, didn't assemble. Even though their right to assemble was "violated". Instead of acting like a bunch of offended pussies, they just found a different place to meet.
Meanwhile, the OWS crowd just squats and squats, and shits and shits. What's not to love about 'em? Unsanitary, over-entitled, over-privileged bunch of creeps.
Haha, alright Perlcat. I guess the constitution doesn't matter anymore. Civil liberties, nothing matters to you guys. Love the typical "You must be a lib living off the system" variation (from the other guy) because I disagree. I'm not saying I agree with every single protest in American history, I am saying THESE kids in particular were exercising their God-given rights. And to the guy who gave me police policies, I bet you think all the things police do are okay don't you? I bet you love the anti-loitering laws we have here in California, which are unconstitutional by the way, but so long as it's written it's fine.
And back to you Perlcat, why do you think defending the constitution is wrong? " Instead of acting like a bunch of offended pussies, they just found a different place to meet."
Rather instead of walking away we should fight for our rights. Not with violence, but like these kids did.
I don't follow you. Then again, nobody can. How does finding a different place to meet constitute a lack of a defense of the constitution? I suppose, if they were to act like spoiled brats, they could stomp and throw a hissy fit because they don't get *exactly* what they want when they want. But why? If the town/state or whatever says no permit in the park, then why not go where they don't care if they meet?
This is a great comparison, by the way. You are so steeped in entitlement politics, that you cannot even tell the difference between a right guaranteed in the constitution, and a "want".
These wonderful "kids" of which you speak have "occupied" public spaces for so long as to deny other members their equal right to enjoy these spaces. They are acting as "squatters" looking for a place to live, rather than "assemblers" looking for a place to express their dissatisfaction with how things are.
Ah, I understand. We need specialized free speech zones. Thank you, I understand completely your so-called constitutionalist views.
j-Don't let facts confuse you. I know thats hard to understand for aliberal, facts that is. Or the double standard, that liberals may say what they want, when they want, and conservatives should be in the back of the bus, have seperate restrooms and drinking fountains. Then you might be happy since liberals lost that battle the first time. As your president believes.."Constitution? We don't need no stinking constitution".
I guess I'm a liberal for believing in the Constitution? What does that make you? A Communist?
The icing will be on the cake when you tell me you also believe the police are correct when they try to get the media out of those areas. Freedom of the press anyone? Oh no, but police are always right and freedom is a thing of the past.
Big difference between protesting and trespassing there bub. And I didn't see any mention of the press being banned, unless they were trespassing as well. Also blocking highways and bridges, closing ports and places of business is also different from assembling and protesting. Even the idiots from the Westboro Baptist Church know this.
Too bad you're not smart enough to be a good troll.
No wonder why the Talibans remaines the only students that where able to effectively seize power in their own country.
Darn truth, you so ugly to hipsters...
Screw Pepper Spray, time to break out the CS Gas, and wash it down with a water cannon. Choking on your own snot while rolling down the sidewalk would be a real learning experience for these criminals.
I can't imagine them suffering through a OC/CS combo like freeze +p (not that I'd really want to imagine a thing like that, but the way their crying it must be wondered how they'd handle the real thing). I'd go through "pepper spray" about six million times (all at once) before I went through that again. Police brutality . . . heh. These pansies are an insult to all those that have faced oppression and lost big time in order to stand up for their beliefs. Beliefs that were likely far more lofty then the supposed right of these greedy Fleabaggers to exploit even more of my labor and property.
Like the media, students or OWS leaderpukes will care about reality.
I didnt believe for a nano-second that the cops didn't repeatedly and politely request these loony assholes to move and repeatedly warn them of the consequences if they didnt. Whyinell should the cops get physical with these disease infected scumbags and risk getting hurt. (Scratched, spit on, kicked, etc).
But knowing that the media pukes were there and would spin it all out of proportion to the half wit portion of the country, they didnt move. I heard the cop was fired. If so, I hope he sues the college, the president of the college personally, and the state of Kookland for $50 million each, and wins.
