Poor Al Gore. This just isn’t his month. First his wife dumps him like a globally-warmed potato and now the United States and Russia have agreed to let native peoples kill polar bears.
The Anchorage Daily News has the details:
A joint commission is recommending lifting the ban on harvesting polar bears for traditional and cultural purposes in Russia.
The U.S.-Russia Polar Bear Commission met this week in Anchorage to determine the potential for a coordinated and sustainable subsistence harvest of polar bears by Native peoples of Alaska and Chukotka in Russia. The commission determined that the harvest should be limited to up to 58 polar bears a year, with no more than 19 being females.
So it turns out Al Gore may have been right after all. The polar bears are endangered, but it ain’t global warming that’s going to kill them. It’s Eskimos.

If polar bears were really endangered they wouldn't allow it. I am almost sure of it. I have no problem with Eskimos doing their thing, after all it is not like there is a large number of Eskimos anyway who would really endanger the numbers of bears.

So a cultural purpose would be to make those big ol' fuzzy hats?
No, for actual full-body clothing. Remember what area we're talking about - the COLD Arctic. Fur is worn there for warmth, not as a status symbol. Plus the folks there don't have the cash to go shopping for thermal clothing from LL Bean. These are native people, with their own culture, that live off the land.
Why mess with something that works for them? BTW, the polar bear population, contrary to 'green hysteria', is multiplying quite well, thank-you, and strolling around on the thickest Arctic ice/snow pack in decades
(much to hot-air Al's chagrin).
When in doubt, take the Beatles advice: "Let it be."
Further proof America is racist! While it's always been ok to hunt black bears and brown bears, it took a black president's administration to right this wrong and allow hunting white bears.
His work is complete - can he retire now? PLLEEAASSEE?!?
