Around 1980 I put a V6 in a Vega GT.
I have no idea why I did that-
1) Sounded like a good idea at the time 2) car had 30,000 miles on it a the engine was already shot 3) stoned
All of the above
Vandals in Hooded sweat shirts....the CBC ?
My first car was the venerable 1971 Ford Pinto. My buddies turned it sideways between two pick ups in the school lot one day. FWIW, my Pinto could smoke the tires like that hopped up SmartCar. It was still a piece of sh##...too!
They were explosive.
Mine had the modded gas tank. It was just a plain ole POS. Not the explosive POS model! ;)
I worked in an automotive machine shop back then. I have no knowledge of the car itself, but I worked on plenty of the motors, and I know they were built like the proverbial brick shithouse. As everyone else was going to aluminum heads that were constantly cracking and blowing head gaskets, the Pinto was all cast iron.
The Vega was the bad one. Most machine shops couldn't even work on it. We were one of the few that could bore the cylinders and re-line them with teflon. Or, better yet, we would bore them out, install iron liners, and fit the motor with aluminum pistons, which is what GM should have done in the first place if they wanted an aluminum block. Not to mention that you had to have special tooling to even take apart the Vega head for a valve job, which most shops didn't have. Again, GM building pure crap, and selling it to the unsuspecting customer.
That's why people started putting L-88 Corvette engines in them. Nice lightweight car with a beast of an engine. Lots of twisted unibodys.
What's even funnier is the story on the side about wineries offering yoga/wine tasting tours.
Who's up for a short trip to Chicago? *Smirk*
ME!!!
Here's the only Smart Car I'd want. http://youtu.be/AgwzHJo3IXM
Sounds like a Kawasaki Ninja.
Still looks like a toy!
Now that is down right kewl! All engine.
Now here's the monster version:

This isn't original. We did similar to a gal in high school who had an original Mini. We picked it up and carried it into the side yard at her house one day, closed the gate and then watched her freak out when she came out to go someplace.
Vw bugs wete routinely picked up and moved to assorted non car locations. Even at my junior high, some guys put one in t he middle of the open, but . Roadles campus.
This is a great solution to the parking problem in San Francisco. Stick the car on its ass.
Or, stick it up the owner's ass.
