  • Hmm, I gotta start a banana plantation out back. They'll grow fine in Massachusetts, right? With the right "fertilizer"?

      • Bon Jovi has a mansion on a hill along a river. I've ridden my Harley by there many times. Don't remember hearing or seeing any bees. In fact, I don't remember seeing his car ever being there. Maybe he pays his gardener to raise the bees, and save him $50,000 a year in property taxes.

          • That is nice. I don't mind if he gets subsidies for keeping bees and that helps him supply people perhaps in the area with honey or supply businesses and you know partake positively in the economy, but if he doesn't have bees that is fraud.

          • If I remember correctly, in order to qualify for the farm rate on property taxes, you need to earn a minimum of somewhere between $200 and $600 a year from your farming activities.
Not exactly a viable farm, nor positively affecting the local economy.

          • Okay, so if I sell myself $200/$600 worth of my own veggies a year, claim a loss on the "farm", get the tax write off, and claim the subsidies, I'm good. Right?

          • And the # of acres involved and tax savings I read were huge when compared to the # of bees. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for legally screwing the gov't out of every dime possible, it's the hypocrisy and then demanding others "pay their fair share" I can't stand.

  • Come on now, you have to have somewhat to farm to get all those idiots and repeat voters in Chicago.

Thieves all, even screwy Louie got in on the action.

  • Urban agriculture is a tradition in Chicago - there are many graft ranches on the south side, and several large bribe plantations near the Loop.
