From O's perspective GM was a great success. The bailout/faux bankruptcy maintained the jobs of the union O voters there until the 2012 elections. This was the main purpose of the operation, and it worked. 25 MMM to buy these votes, money that the O campaign doesn't have to pay, is a democrat party success.

Up until they win that medal, they have years of work and sweat and unless they happen to be independently wealthy, frugality. There are no guarantees that they will win,but when they do, they win for the entire nation. And they come home with, at most $25k for a gold, and a tax bill of as much as $9k of that. Hey, thanks for the hard work - now hand over the goods!
