What’s missing from this picture? This is a photo of the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Champions, from historically black college Bethune-Cookman… only there isn’t anybody black on the team. They recruit white golfers so they can win. Only in America can a bunch of white kids win a golf tournament for minorities.

I really don't see how this corresponds to anything other than the hollowness of the selection process for any sport that invites people to join from outside it's normal demographic.
Baseball, football, and basket ball are just as bad in almost any country you find them in. What's the fun of watching any school sport that needs to be a business to function? How can a team captain be a hero for a school or town if they are from half a world away and care nothing for that town?

I'm not following your reasoning. Recruiting is a fundamental aspect of college sports. Are you suggesting that a talented baseball player from Texas should only attend and play for the University of Texas or another college based in that state and not and be allowed to transfer if a better offer is made to that athlete?
In Texas, there are all kinds of rules for competition in UIL sponsored programs (pretty much everyone.) In theory, to prevent this very type of recruiting, if a student moves to a different school from that to which hi\he is assigned, he cannot participate for 1 year. I have certanly ly seenschools (usually the wealthier schools who can also provide a higher level of education)weasel aroundthose ruled t get a hot prospect tocome to their school. As Long as jobs (coaching, Band director, Debate team.. .. . .) are the basis for said coaches to keep their jobs, it will continue.
I think what he's getting at is that this is obviously a golf tournament dedicated to minority students from minority colleges. None of the team members are minorities, they're all ringers, brought in specifically for the purpose of winning this one tournament. It is a matter of following the spirit of the rules of the tournament.
I get that, PJ. The whole idea of a minority tournament is ridiculous. These girls likely are not good enough to play for elite schools but they were offered scholarships to come to Bethune-Cookman where they could be stars at that level. How is that different than a number of black football players on the roster at otherwise mostly Anglo Boise State? Those kids are not good enough to play in the SEC or Big Ten but they got an opportunity to play at a high level anyway.

True. No-one bats an eye when Duke is in the Final Four almost every year and its overwhelmingly white population is barely represented on the floor. Only a liberal would see a problem. It works both ways, I have season tickets for Marquette University basketball games. The 2011-12 team was 100% African-American in a college that is 95% White.
What's going on? Marquette has decided it wanted to field a winning team in the Big East conference so the basketball coach recruited the best players he could find. Turns out they were all Black.
Bethune-Cookman made the same decision with its golf team, turns out the women were all White.
P.S. Marquette made it to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA playoffs.
