Funny, I talk to a lot of teachers and they all say the same thing: "When I was a kid NO ONE was allergic to peanuts; now I have half the class who will pass out if someone opens a jar of peanut butter."
Allergies are through the roof (nuts, dairy, wheat, eggs - stuff humans have eaten forever) and it's all because you can't play games with your immune system. It will eventually catch up with you.

Not sure your analogy holds. I never brought chicken pox to school and I never asked anybody else not to bring peanuts. Here's a better analogy: more people are hurt by vaccinations than by peanuts, so why are the peanuts banned and the vaccinations required?

"Every kid did get chickenpox and, in the pre-vaccine era, there were 3-4 million cases a year," Seward said. "What people may not have realized, every year, about 105 people died of chickenpox. About half of those were children and about 11,000-12,000 were hospitalized with severe complications. We started preventing the disease to really prevent those very serious complications."
Among adults younger than 50, the decline was 96 percent; overall, the decline was 88 percent. Seward pointed out that adults get more serious chickenpox than children and also need two doses of the vaccine.
Were you vaccinated for chicken pox? I wasn't and got them, and measles, when I was in grade school. I also know that you are older than I am, and are just as unlikely to have been vaccinated for them.
In the meantime, peanut allergies were largely unknown and not as widespread in the 50's and 60's.
