When crossbows are outlawed, only outlaws will have crossbows
This story has potential for the Second Amendment to run right smack dab into the middle of the fourteenth century. The Associated Press has the details:
A Canadian man was charged with first-degree murder Friday for fatally shooting his father in the back with a crossbow in a Toronto library as shocked mothers and children watched.
Forsooth, verily, Zhou Fang hath dispatcheth his father
Zhou Fang, 24, appeared in court to face the murder charge a day after Si Cheng, 52, was killed in the library about an hour after a nearby school let out for the day. The judge ordered that Fang be held without bail.
Toronto police Const. Tony Vella said Cheng was pronounced dead at the scene and Fang was arrested later Thursday in a Toronto suburb.
“The use of a crossbow is definitely a unique case in Toronto,” said Vella. “You hear about guns, you hear about knives being used, but you definitely don’t hear about a crossbow.”
Liberal legislators across the fruited plain looked at this Canadian case and immediately began drafting anti-crossbow legislation, saying, “The Founding Fathers never anticipated these weapons of mass destruction.”
Crossbows penetrate Kevlar. Keep that in mind when the next civil crisis starts.
Good point. I wonder if they penetrate the armored plates found in military vests.
Doubtful. The blade on an arrow has no advantage on a ceramic like the plates where they can cut the kevlar fibers that would deform a lead bullet.
Of course, most police departments don't have the $800 or so per plate where kevlar only vests are only $500 or so....the last time I looked anyway.
Rifles will penetrate kevlar fabric vests as well. Which also makes you wonder why the clintons went after "assault" rifles.
p.s. so will 357 sig...or so I've been told.
p.p.s. your 40 S&W glock or HK needs a $150 barrel for the conversion!
Don't bring a crossbow to a gunfight.
do you know how expensive a crossbow is? A $200 handgun would have done the job-but this guy could afford a $ 1,000 crossbow?
It would be racist to notice that neither the perp nor the victim seem to be evil white men, wouldn't it?
A friend in Canada told me that the gun registration they enacted several years ago was a complete bust and that after several billion dollars "pissed away" he thinks they have abandoned it. I asked him if he registered his guns. His reply was interesting. I have heard some classic profanity in my day and consider myself somewhat of an expert on it use myself. But, he enlightened me quite a bit. A simple "no" would have saved about 5 minutes and his blood pressure.
At one time I think the Pope declared them illegal, since an unskilled peasant could take out an armoured knight, it threatened the balance of power. Sound familiar?
