  • Just what you'd come to expect from a man that lectures the nation about "sputnik moments" after having killed NASA.

  • Looking at that picture, you have to figure that Team BO is now going to accuse Romney of outsourcing jobs to Mars when he was at Bain Capital.

    Reading comments, I picked up on some of the symbolism that others noted in the photo
    - A crescent and a single star
    - A VOLT (?) in the background
    There were more things, but those all assumed that the picture was taken specifically for the "tribute". Regardless, any way you slice it, this man is the most arrogant narcissistic president ever. He acts like a dictator in a 3rd world nation when it comes to self-promotion.

      • Interesting. I had always assumed that the advancement of trig owed a lot to that age of Islam when it was interested in math/science/art. But even if not I'm still appreciative for them being good stewards of the classical thought ... and then returning it to the west at the end of the dark ages.

        • Yeah Greeks formalized it and named it.. (triangle-measuring, if i recall?) It probably from some crude Egyptian or Sumerian/Babylonian precursors. But I'm sure you're right that enlightened Arabs enhanced and nurtured it before The West went ballistic with all that knowledge and assembled the modern world that more and more of the planet now enjoys. I am still in awe of what Western Civ accomplished in a short succession of centuries

          I'll agree that the use of stock photo is somewhat oafish here. But i'll take Obama at his word that he properly reveres our publicly funded accomplishments in space. Not only is he an obvious advocate of the public sphere, he was also a Star Trek fan. I for one am glad we planted our Flag there first.. before the Soviets, or China, or any private corporation.

          I had that iconic photograph of Flag On Moon in my room for years as a kid in the 1970s (alas, not born in time to witness the event itself). Neil and Buzz were supermen. My first love of science came through Astronomy, and I used to write letters to Goddard and JPL and NASA for *FREE* Pioneer & Voyager pics. I still have them.. big 8x10s, though many were defiled by my little sister writing "M-O-O-N" on them when she was like 4, lol

          It will be very cool when SpaceX or Virgin Galactic gets up there or on Mars.. especially since the market for us or our kids will open up. But I doubt anything competes with that Moon Landing Day (and I envy those of you who got to see it happen live)

          • I remember (still have some) those awesome 8x10 pics and mission break-downs from NASA as a kid, that they sent to ME, for free!(as a kid it was so cool to get mail addressed to me from NASA) Got me interested in "boring" science and just plain "how does this stuff work" as a kid. And Estes model rockets, anybody else do those?

          • I was associate editor of my High School Yearbook, and that year we had a spaced themed yearbook. A silver moonscape as the cover, and each section was introduced by one of the pics we got from NASA> I have always been very proud of the yearbook (I worked on three, but this was the best!)

          • Haha i actually bought a bunch of that stuff like a month ago, though it'd been like 30 years.. I took the kids to launch with a group that meets in Lakewood and they loved it. One dude, like me, hadn't done it in a while--and he forgot all about the wadding and his chute went up in flames. I had to go back to the store once because i had initially thought the "solar igniter" i bought was some new-fangled tech that had emerged since i was young, permitting ignition from accumulation of sunlight alone. Nope.. still battery launchers as always. Another great way to introduce the kids to ballistics, and have them run off steam recovering rockets

  • Just when you think this sleazy bag can't stoop any lower, he proves me wrong. What's next a campiagn email or commercial asking for a contribution in the name and honor of Neil Armstrong? barry needs to remember that it's he who cut NASA and turned it into a muslim fricking out reach agency.

    • I am still trying to figure that one out. Dpes he think Muslims are Aliens form space? How does NASA get nvolved in this at all?

  • Sadly, we aren't saying rest in peace for that dickweed. I loathe his entirety. A curse on the pustule-in-chief.
