Okay, so let me see if I got this straight.
A president is elected by a majority of Ukrainians. This president never made any secret of his desire to have close ties with Russia.
This president in what should have been a surprise to no one, makes a decision favoring Russian ties, and turning away from closer ties with the EU.
A bunch of utes take issue with this decision and "occupy Kiev".
The Obmana administration sponsors a change in the gov't in Keiv. An ultra nationalist, culturally oriented toward the western Ukraine and extremely anti -Russian takes over. Gangs, sometimes wearing swastika armbands, run around attacking anyone speaking Russian or anyone they suspect might be speaking Russian, or have any ties with Russia. This includes Ukrainian churches that are affiliated with the Moscow Patriarchate. There are reports of Chechen fighters (remember the Chechens? they're the ones getting help from Iran) helping the new Ukrainian gov't (anyone shooting at Russians is the Chechens' friend). The Kiev gov't does nothing to stop them.
The people in eastern Ukraine, who consider themselves Slavic and brothers and sisters of Russians, take issue with this, and decide they want no part of the insanity coming from western Ukraine. They decide they want independence from that.
Kiev sends the army to eastern Ukraine. The army shoots everything that moves, and blows up any building that may contain something that moves. Civilian targets, military targets, what's the difference?
The separatists resist.
For this, the separatists are considered terrorists.
Okay. That makes perfect sense.
Well, when you present a sequence of events like that it does make one wonder just how screwed up the media is and its slanting of the "news".
So did the seperatists or Ukranian nationalists shoot down the plane? Was it really mistaken for a western Ukranian transport as the Russians claim on RT.com. When did the SU 25 come into the picture as also claimed by RT.com?
Rhetorical questions. I'm not asking anyone to do my research for me.
This is just my opinion on the general question of presentation/packaging of the news:
Fundamental truth - the MSM will carry carry the water for Obmana every time all the time. So don't look to the media for motives. Look to the administration.
Whether it's cult leaders or gov leaders (or are they the same?), they need an enemy to rally the masses behind them. Obmana's approval ratings are tanking. Meanwhile, there's the get Ukraine into the EU thing going on. But the occupy Kiev crowd grts their panties in a wad, and that seemingly scuttles that whole plan.
Well, here's the opportunity to stick it to Russia, and dust off an old bogeyman from history. Russia seems like an instant villain that can take all the attention off the domestic and economic policy disasters of this admin.
So they do the regime change thing. They don't give a damn about what's good for the people, what the majority wants, or what the repercussions will be. That don't give a shit about any of that here, why would they care about how many Ukrainians get shot, die of starvation, or whatever?
Needless to say, the guv folks always have this ongoing problem with their grand plans. All those pesky masses seem to want what they want, and not what the anointed think they should want. And at least some of the Ukrainians are no exception.
But regardless of the reality, the necessary meme is still Obmana the good guy in the white hat vs Putin the evil empire dictator (85% approval rating in Russia), in the black hat. And the MSM obediently carries that message.
But the realty is that the separatists attacked no one, and didn't even shoot at anyone until the Ukrainian army got there. But using the term terrorists makes it sound as if they've been waging a hamads-style terror campaign to achieve their aims.

Wait a minute now. I appreciate that you have a personal viewpoint, but the notion that Russia might shoot down a passenger airliner is most emphatically not a bogeyman. They did that very thing just thirty years ago, scoring a rather unique first-and-only in world history.
And in this case, every intelligence source seems to agree on one thing: the only people in the area with the capability of shooting down an airliner flying at 30,000 feet is the Russians, whether by doing it themselves or providing the implements to the Russian separatists. Is it possible the Ukrainians scored a Russian Buk missile from stockpiles stored in Ukraine prior to the current tensions? I guess so. How would I know? But for God's sake, don't the Russians count those things and keep track of them? Shouldn't they know whether the Ukrainians have one of their missiles? No matter how you look at it, the Russians are looking bad right now.
It's absolutely possible. Although I don't see any possible motive. The Russians have nothing to gain, and a ton to lose by doing that. They are getting much of Europe to lean their way and give up on the idea of sanctions that is being pushed by the Obmana administration. Why they would jeopordize that by killing a planeload of Europeans seems a little odd. And the Ukrainians definitely have the capability to do that - they as much as admitted that, but said they have no surface to air missiles mobilized because the separatists have nothing in the air.
Unfortunately, we will probably never know, even when we "know".
Warfare is now conducted very much with the media and P/R in mind. The Palestinans have staged so much "news footage" that there's even a name for it (Pallywood, I think). We've already had the "all Jews must register" hoax that supposedly came from the separatists, but most likely came from some Ukrainians acting on their own to throw some bad P/R on the separatists. So any side could have infiltrated any other to frame them.
But in any case, I didn't even get into the shooting down of the plane. I am speaking of the general timelline of the events, which is what it is regardless of who did it, and what is my opinion of the likely role of this administration in that timeline.
So when I say "...stick it to the Russians ...", it's not about the blame for the plane, but rather in regard to the overall coverage and the portrayal in the media of 2 of the at least 4 groups involved, now or eventually.
Maybe the UN found it, and gave it to the seperatists, on the promise that they wouldn't hurt anyone with it. Hell, it worked in Gaza.
