Young invincibles spurn O-Care

Young invincibles spurn O-Care. “…insurance coverage of any kind remains a tough sell for people in their twenties, many of whom are eligible to stay on their parents’ plans through age 26. …many young people might not see enrollment as being in their financial interest.” Gee, who coulda seen that one coming? Besides anybody not in the Obama Administration, that is?

  • in america you dont get what you pay for but a lot more -a lot more of bullshit

other people say theyre getting a good deal on this health thing-did you see what Kentucky governor said?

  • Isn't the first lesson in marketing "Know your target audience"?
Don't you think they would have researched what the possibilities of 20 somethings buying insurance were?

    • They never study ANY THING. Too convinced they know everything already. Look at the troll as the perfect example.

    • Bwahahahaha
CEO of Colorado's troubled state health exchange seeks year-end bonus

"Patty Fontneau, president and CEO of Connect for Health Colorado, currently earns $190,549. Her chief operating officer and chief financial officer earn $164,800 each."

"...exchange officials reported that 9,980 people have purchased private health plans so far."

"The Colorado exchange is supported through a blend of federal grants totaling $177 million that could run through mid-2016."

"The exchange is supposed to be self-sustaining by 2016, through a mix of fees paid by those buying coverage and by insurers and from some reserve funds from a nonprofit."
Math is HARD. The gift that keeps on screwing.

    • Nah, these f*ckwits can't get their heads far enough out of their asses to ask themselves the simple question: Why *do* young people forgo health insurance? Surely it isn't because they were hoping some weapons-grade moron would force them to do it. Could it be that they are healthy, and don't see the need for the expense when they haven't been in the workforce long enough to get paid well?

Me, I'm just enjoying the sh*t out of this. This was predictable.

      • They know.. hence the phrase, young and invincibles. They know, because they compelled them to act against their self-interest (while possibly arguing it IS in their long-term self-interest). It took a law to pull that off.

I mean, it is basically a levy issued through a forced market, right? (or via fines if compliance doesn't occur). They know that. It was done because taxes have become political anathema. The whole notion of a stealth tax is something that's been greatly clarified for me by this site alone.

Don't forget.. the exchanges are markets.. they have some strange rules, of course, but because they possess market forces, there will be winners and losers. Watching the winners will be most interesting over the next few years. Corporatist forces in both government and industry will swirl around them

        • The way I see the exchanges is the way I see every other element of the ACA. It is a lie or at least it isn't what it appears to be. The concept of exchanges sounds all "free markety" but if isn't. One goes on the exchange to sign up but because the policies features are all so regulated under the conditions set by the law. there is no choice just the illusion of choice. It's like in a one-party government; it has elections but all of the candidates on the ballot represent the state in the same way. Illusion of choice.

          • Its true its basically a quasi-market, compelled into existence by fiat and law. But there's a huge amount of quantifiable variation in the plans (at least in CO's exchange). I'm really curious to see how it all pans out.. if people tend towards higher deductables, or premiums, or just opt for fines and reprisal

          • What are those quantifiable differences and how do they compare in variation to what we had pre-ACA?

          • Not a single plan i saw was attractive to me. I can only say nearly all of them were cheaper then COBRA would've been.

The only time in the past that i've shopped for individual insurance was in 1999, and i was single, and i cost me about $75/month for a PPO plan (BCBS). I didn't shop around much at all.

The lowest i saw (on CO exchange) for a family of 5, and a wife that smokes (and quits, and smokes), was about $635/month, and the deductable was I *think* 10-12K. I saw premiums over $1000/month, too. This was sometime during October. I didn't do any of the analysis necessary to make a decent choice, but there were about a dozen painful options. There was social component too, with user reviews and such

          • SA_Rose: Congratulations! If this is something that was said before I am sorry for not congratulating you (and your daughter) before, I really don't recall knowing this. First grandchild?

          • My daughter is pregnant and due in January. She disquieting work to stay home with the baby and will lose her insurance. She looked on the exchanges and the best deal she found was $359/month, with a $3000 deductible. Still way cheaper than COBRA.

          • lmao @ "wife that smokes (and quits, and smokes)". BTDT Not the wife, me. Almost always the former these days, but every now and then...

          • I sure got boned on it. My insurance doubled from 350 to 700/month, with a $5500 deductible.

However, I am comforted in the fact that if I ever get pregnant, I'm covered. Not sure about how that will actually *work*, what being a man, and having been "fixed" back in '92, but hey, if through my contributions, a lesbian can now get free contraceptives (that usually cost $10/month), it all must be worth it. To somebody. Just not to me.

          • You have clearly missed out on the "education" we all received from she who shall not be named. It seems not buying into Obamacare is irresponsible and you are selfish if you are not willing to pay more in every way for you new insurance, which is not at all like the old insurance. By the way,I have just saved you some 125 extensive posts to learn this truth.

          • Doesn't matter rose, you left out thousands of unnecessary words, so she will come in and correct your oversight.

          • "and having been “fixed”...
I always wondered, do you still need a cc permit if you're walking around with an unloaded weapon?

          • I've been shooting blanks for 36 years now. I love it. It still makes just as much noise, but nobody gets hurt.

  • I do believe that a few judicious investments in the Young Republicans should pay off for, say the next eighty years. Nothing makes a conservative quite like being on the receiving end of brain-dead liberal policies.

  • A Progressive Politician was up on a stage, at a podium, giving a speech about the benefits of Obamacare & why everyone should be signing up.

A lady in the audience stood up & asked the Progressive Politician how Obamacare would benefit her at her job.

The Progressive Politician, with that classic patronizing smirk we all know and love, asked, “What do you do?”

“I’m a rectum stretcher”, the lady responded.

The Progressive Politician stammered, “A what? A rectum stretcher? And just what does a rectum stretcher do?”

“Well,” she said, “I start by inserting one finger, then work my way up to two fingers, then three, then four, then with my whole hand in. I work from side to side until I can get both hands in, and then I slowly but surely stretch it, until it’s about 6 feet wide.”

Then the Progressive Politician asked, “And just what the heck do you do with a 6 foot rectum?”

The lady responded, “You place him on a stage, behind a podium, to give a speech about how good Obamacare is.”

  • Where is their compassion? Where is their care for their fellow-man? Do they have no heart? Come one bullet proof millenniums step up and be a team player. It's time to put your words to actions, your principles to deeds. You all were in favor of the barrycare plan when you thought it was free to all. Now that you have come to the realization that you bought into a hoax and were played as fools. You don't wish to stand by your principles. Most of you were to busy helping quagmire get elected twice to listen to those of us who had wisdom and attempted to share our life experiences with you when it come to politicians and free things.

The sticker shock has hit and just wait until the control shock rolls around. As one who had to learn the hard way when I cast my first presidential vote for the ignorant peanut farmer, crow taste a bit better with some hot sauce and a cold beer or two.

Face it you've been used, lied to and now none of you are of any use to quagmire.

    • Amen. I think Nixon was the first president I voted for. I thought he was pretty shady, but he ended the war and that was the only thing I had any deep feelings about. What bothers me daily is that dishonesty has become so openly and widely accepted as business as usual that I don't see how that genie ever gets put back in the bottle. I think that's going to take longer than I have left.

  • See what happens when your generation is no longer taught responsibility? Now these twits are learning the hard way that there's no such thing as a free lunch.

  • yet the young were the core group so vocal about the glory of obama and his wondrous leadership and vast experience (community organizer) strange how socialism is so appealing until it runs out of others money
