Build it and they won’t come: 68% of American voters want a border fence

Nicely done, President Obama. Well played, Attorney General Holder.

Since the court decided in your favor on the Arizona illegal alien law, support for your position has skyrocketed. And by skyrocketed, we mean plummeted.

Rasmussen reports that a remarkable 68% of American voters now want a friggin’ fence:

Support for the building of a fence along the Mexican border has reached a new high, and voters are more confident than ever that illegal immigration can be stopped.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 68% of U.S. voters now believe the United States should continue to build a fence on the Mexican border. That’s up nine points from March when the Obama administration halted funding for the fence and the highest level of support ever.
Just 21% oppose the continued building of the border fence.

Support for the fence is strong across all demographic groups. But while 76% of Mainstream voters think the United States should continue to build the fence, 67% of the Political Class are opposed to it.

  • I've read that Arizona cannot legally build a fence. But if that's the law,,,, Screw the law! Build it anyway!

    • The only thing stopping the building of the fence is the funding. That congress stopped. Rember the 2006 bill said that there was to be built a double fence over 750 miles long. But they held up on the funding. There is no law that prevents them from building it. There are some private organizations building there own.

        That's the Fed funding that you're referring to. I'm talking about Arizona's rights/ability to build it's own fence. I tried to find a link to what I've read, but am a terrible net searcher! But,,, what I read was that it was not legal for Arizona to build a fence, and,,, that the feds have total jurisdiction up to 100 miles from the Border! That includes Phoenix.
        Maybe someone who is more computer savvy can find out fur shure???

    • Well, if it's illegal to build it ON the border, so be it.HOWEVER, what's to stop them from building a fence to "keep cattle from straying" say around 1/2 mile IN FROM the border? Hey, it's not on the border. The Fed govt. can build it ON the border if and when they get around to it.

      It's so easy to out-smart Dems/Libs that it's no fun anymore.

  • Hate to give away their plan, BUT...the plutocracy's plan to deal with U.S. debt and obligations long-term is to instill OPEN BORDERS, which means a fence is a waste of time and money if a North-American Union is in the offing anyway... a new young population to counteract the aging Baby-Boomers is how they plan to neutralize future economic problems and insure socialism in the Americas forever...

  • The free market in child prostitutes and cocaine is very important to the 32% of hardcore Democrat voters, they can't shut the border.

    Hey USN Retired, I spent a week at sea aboard the Washington a few years ago. Best damn group of people Ive had the Honor to be with.
    I made 6000 friends in a matter of hours, they treated me like i was a king.

    • Paden, try spending 6-7 months out at sea with those same people. After about the 4th month they stop being the best damn group of people and start getting on your nerves!!! But glad to hear you enjoyed yourself. I think Tiger Cruises are a good way for the public to see what goes on in the lives of their loved ones while they are defending America.

  • I don't know about a fence. It seems like a great idea but I wonder how long it will take for them to tunnel under it. That's a long border. People tunneled out of Nazi prison camps where there was a gaurd every 10 feet. These people wouldn't have to hide the dirt from the tunnel or anything complex like they did in WWII. I don't want to sound like a stick in the mud but I'm only pro-fence as long as it really works. If it doesn't work, it's just a feel good kind of band-aid thing.

    • Building the fence and having it patrolled by the national guard. They can have it be a double wall with a road between in which a hummve with ground radar system to check for tunneling.

    • Penn & Teller did one of their "Bullsh*t" TV shows about the fence a few years ago, showing how hard it would be to built and how easy to circumvent. Of course, they didn't take into account electrifying the fence. And hey, let's do it with with solar energy, or hook up one of those telegenic windmills every 100 feet or so - that idea alone might get T. Boone Pickens to pay for the whole thing.

  • The last time I was in DC I noticed a fence around the WH. How 'bout we just round up the illegals and toss them over THAT fence?

      • It is nothing like the Berlin Wall. That wall was to keep people in. This wall is to keep those out. The Berlin wall was put up to enslave the people of eastern europe. This wall is to prevent and stop the invasion into our country.

      • You mean, actually have people work for that money? Highly unlikely. Although, they could have blown another few million making signs *saying* they were building the fence.

  • Just wondering.....

    If money for resources / materials is the main issue, wonder what would happen if someone established an on-line donation site, widely linked to any other sites that will accept the link, for contributions to a "Build-the-Arizona-Fence" fund. Said money would go directly to the Soverign State of Arizona, enabling them to procure materials etc to independently construct said fence.

    Let the PEOPLES voice be heard!

    Legal options / opinions / suggestions, anyone?
