Amash Blasts Defeated Opponent: ‘I Ran For Office to Stop People Like You’

• If some establishment RINO smeared me and my family like that I would have told him "Enjoy the unemployment, lying asshole".

  • I keep trying to find out more about that opponent. There is a family here in the Grand Rapids area that owns a large percentage of downtown land. They never sell, only lease, so underneath a lot of the big skyscrapers is land owned by that family, leased to the building's owners on a 99-year lease. The family that owns all that land? Ellis. Amash's opponent's last name? Ellis. Is he a member of that family that owns most of downtown Grand Rapids? I don't know. He lists his occupation as "investment advisor" which is often what sons of rich families do for a living, but I don't know. It's a secretive family but I haven't seen any verification that he belongs to it.

• He takes no prisoners kinda guy.

• I like this, he's being honest about what he thinks about a guy who ran a nasty campaign. It tells me there is no BS here, unlike the whole the usual kiss & make up routine after election campaigns that get dirty & personal. Good for Amash for saying what he believed, & we need more of this, not less.

  • All other things aside, I think he needs a lesson in being a gracious winner. Just stupid to instantly try and alienate potential supporters. He sounds too much like Tantrums with his "Let's win so we can punish the other side."

      I get your point, & you are not wrong. However, too often we see absolutely the dirtiest campaigns with the worst possible personal attacks & then people are supposed to believe it's all good after the election or primary? I don't buy it. Amash is being honest, & it's something that should be celebrated. We get liars in gov't because we enable them, & this is a good chance to stop that.

    • For as dirty a campaign his opponent ran, I don't blame him for rubbing it in. He was called Al Qaeda's best friend in congress.

        Agree 100 percent. The establishment GOP has turned into the machine of dirty tricks. They call their opponents (and more importantly their opponent's supporters) terrorists, extremists, criminals and racists. They lie, cheat and (in the case of Thad Cochran) steal to lock out any opposition and when their suspect behavior gets them to DC they act an awful like the representative of the party they were supposed to be running against. And it is so nice to see some integrity from a politician rather than the usual, "oh well, sorry to sell the people out but sometimes you gotta go along to get along."

• My congressman, a Christian Palestinian-American who doesn't EVER compromise his vote. He was one of only a handful of congresscritters to vote against additional money for Israel's Iron Dome last week. That took guts, coming as it did right before the election. His reasoning was (paraphrasing): "Hey, I'm not against Iron Dome, but we made a promise to offset additional expenditures by reducing spending elsewhere and in this case we haven't done that. We offset when we spend additional money on our own defense budget, so what the fuck?" Most people embroiled in a primary race would have taken the prudent course and voted the same as everybody else, but not Justin. He's ornery, he's libertarian Tea Party on his principles, and he doesn't give a shit what Boehner thinks about him.
