Artist breaks museum vase in protest, then finds out it was worth $1 million. Oops. He thought he was breaking a worthless piece of colorfully painted pottery to make a point about mistreatment of local artists. Turns out it was an ancient Chinese vase from the Neolithic period… six or seven thousand years old.

This fucker needs to be strangled on TV. I bet if it was on PPV, they could raise enough money to recoup the loss.
"I didn't know that it was that amount... I feel so sorry about it, for sure. It was a spontaneous protest," he explains.
Ah! Well, at least he was "living in the moment!" That's how we find true happiness in life, after all.
Considering he broke a vase that looks like it came from K-mart who cares?
No matter what kind of art you're talking about, some people hate it and other people Louvre it.
Will this "artist" attempt to claim free speech when his sorry ass is facing a lawsuit?
Looks like this artist had a typical liberal hissy fit. If you can't control something, then smash it.
Jolly good fun! And I think the mods have made a slight error, according to the linked story (and consistent with the story I saw elsewhere), the vazz was a contemporary work, not Neolithic.
Apparently what Ai Weiwei does is take ancient vases and repaint them... so they are both contemporary and Neolithic:

"The installation, Colored Vases, exemplifies the powerful symbolism that permeates much of Ai's work. The vases are from China's Neolithic period, making them anywhere from 5,500 to 7,000 years old, and have been dipped in cheap, garishly colored industrial paint. Given the historical context, Ai's vandalistic alterations to the vases makes for a stirring and visually striking metaphor for the conflict between East and West, a conflict between culture and commercialism."
Aha! Remember BO's remark of a few years back(which is several millennia in Progressive Years) about "...getting all wee-wee'd up.." ? Now I get it - he was talking about breaking Chinese crockery.
Someone should WeiWei on him.
I disagree. Once they investigate, the police will find the complaints to be vaseless.
He will still need to come up with enough Monet to pay for the vase.
LMAO! He has to Picaso it off the floor.
That's what I call a vasectomy,
I draw the line when it comes to art
I think the guy will get off - there's probably ex-sculpt-atory evidence.
The guy may have smoked too much pot.
Well it's true, being high does affect one's perspective.
Or cry to his Dali
He can always Mona to Lisa about it.
I think he missed the point-illism.
Ohhh.....this is getting like the comments over on Arcamax with the daily comics. A regular contest in punmanship, it is.
Artist puns are too easel for me. I need challenge.
