Barack Obama: America’s first black gold president

obama-first-black-gold-president

Barack Obama was elected as America’s first black president, but has already transformed himself into America’s first black gold president. George Bush may have been an oil man, but we doubt that any president will ever be more identified with oil than the current occupant of the Oval Office.

By the way, President Obama, how’s that laser-like focus on the oil spill working out for you?

  • Sam oh Sam, it's very obvious now that you are the Sam we banned before. For new people here, here is the article we dedicated to the "old" Sam:

    https://www.ihatethemedia.com/sam-i-am

Why do I know it's you? You are doing the same thing as last time. You begin slowly and then you start accelerating with your little kindergarten questions. Before you know it, you're posting once every five minutes. People get annoyed due to your constant and repetitive posting, but you think it's because we don't want opposing views. Next step (if you don't slow WAY down right now), is for me to ban you and then I expect I will receive another crybaby email from you telling me how you were right that I ban opposing viewpoints. Are you going to start a little website that no one will read like last time, telling everyone how mean we are? I don't remember the site URL, please share it with everyone here.

Sam, it's not your viewpoints, it's your f'd up personality. You are one messed up dude. Well, after I saw your tribute to Ashton Kutcher, I hesitate to say dude.

    • I think you might have two people confused. I have no idea how to create a website nor did I write you an email.

And what's up with this Ashton stuff? I really have no idea what you're talking about.

  • I think you got it right when you said that it’s like talking to a brick wall. People here don’t want to hear anything new.

So...when are you gonna say something new??

The truth about the site is that it gets people further entrenched in their positions without any good reason.

Who are you to judge if another has good reason for his/her view.

Discussion is good when their are new views, but patting each other on the back doesn’t get anyone anywhere.

This is your opinion, you are entiled to it, no one has to agree. There is no law that says a discussion has to get anyone anywhere or that a discussion has to even take place.

      • Some do, some don't. Those that do go to a variety of other sites, those that don't stick with the same type of sites. What's the problem? Are YOU here to hear NEW IDEAS (other than the liberal crap) that differ from yours and LEARN from it and perhaps implement them? I think not.

      • Just how new are we talking about? 'cause I need stuff really fresh. Put it out there, Ashton, I mean SAM.... I personally would love to see something NEW for a change.

    • Actually, Bill 374833C, now on the Senate Floor for immediate approval, states that discussion can not and will not be allowed. Punishment includes 3 days in a holding tank with Barney Frank.

  • It's kind of difficult to have a discussion if you can't be heard, isn't it? So shouldn't step 1 be that I make sure that everyone has an equal opportunity to be heard? That seems like a fair criticism and not just a baseless complaint.

    • shouldn’t step 1 be that I make sure that everyone has an equal opportunity to be heard?

How is it that you think this is your responsibility to do this for this site? No one else here is complaining about not being heard. We are all being heard by those who care to read what we post.

So what if three down votes hide a comment. People can still view it if they so choose to do so. I usually do view them just to see what the fuss was all about and I usually end up laughing. On one posting, I received numerous down votes on nearly everything I said. I ended up laughing about that too. The more down votes I got the funnier it seemed to me.

Maybe some of us conservative here don't really want to discuss things with you liberals because we know it is like talking to a brick wall. You are not going to change us and we are not going to change you. And you know what...that's ok.

Maybe this site could be used to change things politically, but that is not what it was set up to do. And you know what...that's ok.

Maybe some here just want to complain over and over again and never change anything but they have that right. And you know what...that's ok.

The truth about this site is that it gets people talking. Most of us enjoy a good laugh, some say thing that get others thinking. This may not be politically active and does not organize events but with people talking, ideas are spread. And you know what...that's ok. Sometimes that is enough.

      • I think you got it right when you said that it's like talking to a brick wall. People here don't want to hear anything new.

The truth about the site is that it gets people further entrenched in their positions without any good reason. Discussion is good when their are new views, but patting each other on the back doesn't get anyone anywhere.

        • So what exactly are these new views and on what? what is your point? what is your end game? why do you bother? what do you want this site to turn into? perhaps a liberal site? there are a lot of those... go find them and be happy with them.

        • Hey Sam - I enjoy reading your posts. I also think that most of your replies are more hyperbole than discussion, so that tends to get a response in kind. Oh, and try to throw in something funny every once and a while, like, "Al Gore has more chins than a Chinese telephone book!" Ok. Maybe not.

    • Beating a dead horse here, but what the heck. Throughout this entire thread Sam, the majority of your comments have remained uncovered and out in the open for everyone to see. Your claim of censorship has been pretty much debunked. As far as discussion goes, several people have made attempts to engage in a discussion with you and you keep going back to the same issue and the same argument (which is not flying). Please make a note of this: This site is called "I Hate The Media.com". It is a place to vent frustrations with the media and their bias as well as their love affair with anything Liberal. It is not a place were people sit around holding hands singing Kumbaya and wishing double rainbows and world peace.

      • If all good hard working americans are conservatives then why does the left have so much influence? Did they get really lucky?

        • Unfortunately conservatives (real ones) retreated from society at large and politics. They became complacent about how things went. Getting involved in the media and the government for some reason seemed beneath conservatives because it all reeks. However that was wrong, if it reeks it is important to get into it to clean it up. Liberals are master propagandists and unfortunately little by little crept into the educational system and distorted history. Assaulted and won over the media and took advantage of the complacency by conservatives. Also many were able to succeed in demasking hypocritical people who called themselves conservatives or were, but made a mistake. That I am sure lead to fear. There are many reasons that I really do not have the time to get into as to why conservatives retreated, however there seems to be a resurgence. So yes I do believe that it was luck, it was a lot of distortion in play (of history, of religion, etc) and the watchmen were not doing their duty. Regrettable but I hope it is not too late to change that.

  • Sam don't get all personal on this. I have had a few comments voted down mainly because the person that I was arguing with (another conservative) was making some statements that I considered to be racist. Overall him and his friends perhaps didn't like being called out on that and hence voted my comments down. However if someone wants to read them they can. I said what I had to say and don't regret it. Sometimes it is unfair and sometimes it isn't. It is what it is, just deal with it.

    • Don't you think that there is a better option? The current voting system creates a systematic bias against any type of opinion that is not accepted by the majority of people on the site. I thought you guys cared about free speech. Everyone on here got all upset that Canadian students protested to not allow Coulter to speak in Ottawa, but you are perfectly alright with a comment section that does the same thing.

      • Sam, Sam, Sam... here are not providing Fair and Balanced news here, like Fox News does. We're not even like CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC and CNN, where we pretend to be unbiased, but really are. We are a BIASED commentary site, with a decidedly rightwing slant, appealing to our rightwing base. And, you cannot compare us to a Canadian educational institution and their government -- we are a private organization. So far--and I say "so far" due to this administrations attempt to control conservative opinion--we can be as unbiased as we wish, and set our own rules.

And given all this, we are by far the most uncensored partisan site there is. Try making opposing viewpoints on HuffPo, DailyKos, DemocraticUnderground and all the rest--I've done it, and they were as mild as your comments, and I was banned.

        • To say that any news source is unbiased seems a little ridiculous and naive. Don't you think you should change the name of your site to ihateliberals?

          • In the commentary shows, hell no. In the news segments, hell yes. It's the only channel that consistently has both sides on, with real liberals (unlike fake conservatives that MSNBC trots out, if and when they make an attempt). It's also the only channel that covers all the stories.

It just may seem biased to you because you are used to hearing everything from a liberal slant, and not an unbiased one.

Now, as I said in my last comment, isn't it time you left? There is nothing here for you. I know I for one won't be having more time to play with you, as I have more propaganda to disburse.

          • finally an honest statement, "propaganda". it's a shame you guys don't actually try and talk about solving problems and living better lives, rather than just complaining. i guess you just like to complain.

          • You've certainly got the complaining part down pat, don't you? You have spent an amazing amount of time today griping about the format here and then you turn around and make a silly-assed statement about solving problems and living better lives? Am I to assume you are trying to fix this site so you can live a better life? Why, then, are you here? - Other than to complain.

        • I guess I didn't express my point clearly enough. I understand what you are, a private body doing what you please, but I just think that everyone on here loses all credibility when they complain about what's happening on other sites and then promote the same behavior here. Or when people complain about issues like free speech but when it comes to it, do it when they have the opportunity. It makes everything you say lose credibility.

          • Oh, I forgot to ask one thing. What is your fascination with Ashton Kutcher? Don't worry, I won't divulge your identity, but gee Sam, that's just weird.

          • Then I think you better leave, what the hell you doing here? Do you crave attention that much?

          • I better leave because people here have no credibility and I called you out on it? Funny that when push comes to shove your resort to running.

      • I have one question for you. Do you make this much noise and bitch and moan about the lack of free speech from liberal sites? Because if you do okay great, but if you don't then you better go off and tell off the liberal sites first before come in here to make your point. I bet you do not hold liberal sites to the same measure. Liberals are all alike. You can insult us but we cannot insult you, you can say whatever you like no matter how repulsive and vile it is, but we cannot do likewise. You can shut OUR free speech down but we cannot do the same to you. Why?

Overall majority does rule. It is what it is. If a majority doesn't like something or feel that the comment is bad or do not like to be called out on what the comment is saying it is voted down, if it is acceptable it is voted up. Majority is what elects people to office and what allows for democracy to prosper. It is reprensible to not allow Coulter to talk because of WHAT SHE MIGHT say not on what she actually was going to say. She wasn't GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY to express herself. It is a very different situation. Here people can express themselves, if it is liked it is liked if it is not liked it is not liked the OPPORTUNITY of free speech is not taken away.

        • What do other websites have to do with what's happening here? Talking about it is just a distraction. If a majority doesn't like what someone is saying in the US they aren't allowed to use political power or authority to shut them up. This is slightly different because it's a private site but the underlying argument is the same. If you really care about having free speech then why would you want to hide the opinions of those you disagree with?

In response to the Coulter thing, Coulter had just given a talk the night before at a different Canadian university. It was the same lecture series. People knew what she was going to say. She was given an opportunity. Do you think she changed her opinion overnight?

          • The thing is that you are trying to put this website into some kind of measure that you want them to live up to, yet do not put that same yoke on other websites. It is hypocritical. You come here so you can express your liberal sentiments without judgement, however if the foot was on the other foot you wouldn't hesitate to judge the sentiments of others. IN fact you are judging as per your comments so you are no better than anyone else and imposing a yoke on others, when you yourself do not practice it, is hypocritical.

If it is okay for other websites to censor and disallow or else put measures to hide unwanted or disliked comments, then why isn't it okay for that to happen here? This is a privately owned and operated website (as far as I know), It is not something paid for by tax payers (as far as I know) and it is not a government runned or directed website (again as far as I know). As a private enterprise this website can do whatever it wants to do, including putting a method of hiding unliked comments by a majority of people. In many cases it is unfair or weird as the comments are valid or else they were taking out of context, in many cases it isn't unfair... It is what it is and so I let it be. It is the price of posting my free speech up in here, if I don't like it I DON'T HAVE TO COME HERE, READ ANYTHING POSTED HERE NOR COMMENT ON ANYTHING NOR ANYONE THAT POST HERE. THAT IS MY RIGHT, it is yours too and you can exercise it instead of bitching and moaning about it. If you don't like it you can leave. No one is forcing you stay and deal with such deemed injustice as a thumbs down and up feature.

This site has no political power nor authority what in the world are you drinking? It is correct that those THAT DO have absolute (of sorts) power, shouldn't use their power to censor nor limit speech in any way BECAUSE of their power, however equating the government to this site or any other site (not government runned) is preposterous. As far as I know the administrator, editor and staff are not gods they cannot control your movements, your typing nor your time. If you want to contribute to the site you can, no one is stopping you. However every site (especially if they are privately owned and operated) can have rules and regulations and what they deem to be acceptable or not. Do you own a business? However instead of policing every comment they allow for majority to rule, majority of people that visit their site. It is absolutely democratic. It is actually very american, perhaps that is the reason why you don't like it?

Fine so they knew what she was going to say because they are mind readers. Fine they assumed that her opinion did not change overnight. They don't like her nor her politics nor what she stand for nor what she said in the past and what they assume she would say again EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS INVITED BY THE UNIVERSITY TO COME AND SAY IT. She didn't go to the university gung ho FORCING everyone to listen to her. She was invited, she accepted the invitation. The students (customers) shot her down didnt want her to come, fine. So she didn't. If the students didn't want her to come so badly they could have pressured the dean or the president to rescind of his invitation BEFORE she came. That would have been the polite thing to do, I actually wouldn't have problems with that. Or else they could have picketed her speech outside or they could have waited until she was done to challenge her on her ideas. The way it was handled was not right and hence the reason why people were upset. It is as if they knew she was coming and took the opportunity to want to insult her and treat her like shit, not to debate her on the issues. If a liberal were to be treated that way by conservative students, you would be up in a rage. However you are changing the conversation and comparing apples to oranges.

Even though everyone can come here to post, not everyone HAS to post. Even though everyone can come here to read, not everyone HAS to read. She didn't go because she felt like it, she was invited. You on the other hand do not have to come in here. If you don't like the site you don't have to get on the site. It is that simple.

          • Kimmy, again you missed the point. Why are you talking about other websites when I'm trying to talk about what's happening here. Are you here because you don't want to hear other opinions? Are you certain that every opinion you have is completely correct and you have nothing else to learn?

          • No my dear. YOU ARE THE ONE THAT IS MISSING THE POINT. This is America. People are free to visit whatever website they want and post in them as they want HOWEVER the website has the RIGHT to have regulations in place to monitor the comments placed on the website or allow the majority of visitors to monitor the comments placed on the website. It is called democracy and free entreprise please look those up.

Do not make this about me. I am not the one creating some bogus problem about a trifle up and down system. If I didn't like it I would leave, since no one made me come in here in the first place. When I go to another website and I don't like the set up, the rhetoric or how things work I leave. I don't bitch and moan about it. I have better things to do.

  • A funny thing on this site is that as soon as three people don't like what someone said then that opinion is hidden. I thought people hear liked freedom of speech so competing opinions can lead towards some sort of truth. It seems like people here don't really want that...

    • Actually, I think that was copied from the left leaning sites that delete comments THEY don't like (or never put them up). Nevertheless, the comments are still here for those that want to read them. This was started a few months back because folks tried to comandeer the site. Personally, I always open the closed comments to see if the left has anything new to say.

Most of us on the right are THINKING people that LISTEN to other points of view. The difference is we do not allow feelings get in the way of reason, facts and common sense. Are you just here to argue? Maybe grind up storage space?

BTW, Deb & I answered your question about education.

      • You are correct, Mistella. And coincidentally, I believe we did it right after another "Sam," a 20 ear old college student, kept posting numerous, nonsensical posts. And considering how many liberal commenters turn to cussing so quick, we needed a way for our readers to hide the message quickly before we notice it.

What Sam and others don't understand, is that we instituted the voting system to hide comments because we DO want comments from liberals here. If we didn't, we'd simply ban commenters instead.

And it's true, I've never been able to post on a liberal website without getting banned. Ever.

        • I think what happens in practice on this site is that people use the Like or Dislike button as a tool to express whether they like or dislike and opinion. So as soon as three people read something slightly left-leaning that they don't like then it is hidden from view. With a site that is overwhelmingly right-wing it takes no time for three people to say they don't like what they just read and opinion is hidden from view. It's obviously because people here just want to have a right-wing love-fest and are afraid to discuss anything.

What does your experience on liberal websites have to do with trying to promote discussion on your website?

          • Sam, that usage of the voting may very well be the case. However I instituted it primarily for the purpose of letting users hide the very vile comments the leftwing whackos often posts here. We at IHTM cannot check on every comment fast enough to keep up with the degenerates that come and by and try to disrupt things. So, allowing users to vote a comment down can get one hidden until we are able to delete it.

It is also meant to discourage annoying people that may not be cursing, but post comment after comment of nonsense. The other Sam I mentioned did this. By hiding them due to down votes, they eventually leave. By the way, targets for downvoting are not just liberals, but liberal or conservative racists and anti-Semites.

Nothing I can do about it as I cannot judge the intent of a comment voter. However, I do promise you this: when your friends on the left learn to comment here without throwing f-bombs, posting links to porn, wishing death on republicans, etc., I will remove the down vote hiding feature.

(As traffic continues to increase, I will bump up the votes threshold.)

          • There is something you can do about because you can change the system. You don't think there is another way of achieving your purpose? I think there is but you would rather just hide what you don't want to hear.

  • It's strange the the same people on here who want the government out of everything expect the government to instantly fix a massive privately caused accident. Does that make any sense? Can someone tell me what a good leader would have done?

    • A good, no make that an effective leader, would have accepted the help in any form (read skimmers) from those countries that had offered it within 3 days after the spill. Each of the four skimmers that the Dutch offered can collect 5,000 TONS of oil a day, which equates to 146,000 barrels of oil. The Dutch have invested a lot more time and money into rapid response to spills and have been successful in smaller spills in Europe. And that is just from the Dutch...never mind the 20+ other countries (I've lost count) that have offered assistance.

So Obama wasted what, 60 days in accepting help? Most Americans are too proud to accept help on a national level as we have always been the ones to offer assistance to other countries in time of disasters...no other country comes close to the US in terms of charity, but I believe that there isn't a single American who would have refused help from other countries.By not immediately helping to contain it, this spill hasn't even begun to wreak havoc on the Gulf states...just wait until hurricane season starts and all that nasty crap will be spread inland for miles coating everything in its path. Superfine oily sh*t on EVERYTHING. That and it will encircle the globe eventually. Makes the Exxon Valdez spill look like a cake walk.

It doesn't matter if it was caused by a private company or the government...the President is the one in charge of protecting the citizens, so a multi-pronged, armed-to-the-teeth response was and is necessary.

    • You started with a false premise that we refuse to buy into.

Neither the story nor the comments on this story suggest that anyone here thinks Obama should or could fix the leak. I would think that most of our readers would agree that the government has absolutely no expertise in this area (in fact, we'd be pretty much stumped if you asked us to list any areas in which the government does have expertise).

Obama's problem is that he stepped forward and grandly announced that he was in charge, that the buck stops with him, yet he's done nothing except get his big, hamhanded administration in the way, causing more problems than its solved. I'm pretty sure that if we took a poll, most IHTM readers would say, "Get the hell out of the way, Mr. President." And we're pretty sure the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Texas would agree.

  • This is apropos, as I have always thought that barry and family are like a cross between the beverly hillbillies(too dumb for their own good) and George Jefferson and family(barry knows everything and is smug, self-absorbed, and not as smart as he thinks he is). The photo though was the first thing I saw this morning, and made me, as usual, spit coffee all over my computer. You have outdone yourselves again-brilliant.

  • @Neo - good luck on quitting - you will be successful when you realize how much it costs and how much better you feel having quit. Again, best of luck!!
    MV

  • I'm on day 4 of quitting cigarettes cold turkey, and anything that can make me laugh today is manna from heaven! nice work! This one hit the spot!
