• Misleading headline, unless the story itself is:

  "the campaign, dubbed "Spring Breeze," mainly targets the dissemination of information related to smuggling firearms, drugs and toxic chemicals, as well as the sale of human organs, the counterfeiting certificates and invoices and trade in personal information."

  No indication this is a political purge, although that's always a possibility of course; on the other hand, they usually aren't shy about admitting such things. This sounds like routine police work in the cyberage.

  • If you believe what the Chinese government says. I find this more to the heart of the matter -

    "The spokesman urged Internet users to actively oppose the spread of harmful information.China has stepped up its efforts to "cleanse" cyberspace over the past few weeks. Beijing police on Friday announced the detention of six people for allegedly fabricating and spreading rumors on the Internet, as well as punishment for websites and social media that carried the rumors.

    Reality is while they may have gotten rid of some bad actors they also did a purge of those sites at odds with the party line.

    • The Chinese government is like that nutty Oregon college professor discussed previously, they both want to "cleanse" society of "bad ideas" and "incorrect thinking".

      The Left never changes, it cannot tolerate dissent.
