Big Bang Theory is literally on 24 hours a day here. It's Mrs. Ex-Editor's favorite show (she sings along with the theme song EVERY time she watches it and has even choreographed parts of it), so every time we return to our cottage in the Cotswolds, she turns it on.
It is a really funny show.
The BBC dumped my favorite show on their network, Top Gear.
You'd actually be surprised of how many popular foreign shows are are picked up by the US. We see them without realizing they have been running in the UK or Australia for years. Sad thing about a lot of them is when US writers get hold of foreign series, they politically correct the show by adding/deleting characters as needed to "further" the producer or directors political and social agendas. In doing so, a lot of the grit that made the show popular overseas is lost.
The most common is adding gay characters and couples. On the shows that already have a gay component, they are empowered and the stigma is stripped from the storyline. Yep, the Europeans still make fun of gay people, a lot. They do tend to have a lot more bi-racial couples in their shows, though usually minor roles. Our writers will give that couple a more prominent and positive role.
There was a British sitcom called Yes Minister about a guy who was totally fed up with the massive bureaucracy (like ours) that he ran for parliament and won. Each episode is where he is trying to make cuts to the worthless and duplicitous hoards of paper shufflers and all the double talk and roadblocks put up by these bureaucrats. I have VHS's of these episodes. Very funny, very true, (there and here) and frankly explains why formerly Great... Britain has gone down the tubes as we have.
Added the first season to my Netflix queue.

A few more of the better ones were Black Adder, Fawlty Towers, and The Office, which is one we did copy.
Loved Fawlty Towers, but for some reason could never get into their version of The Office. If you don't mind raunchy humor though, Coupling is hilarious!
The Black Adder, now there was some damn funny stuff. But they also had The Red Dwarf, and Waiting for God.
For some reason a lot of Americans don't get British Comedy, thus we have to edit / censor it so democrats can understand it.
It requires thought. Democrats prefer slapstick. So obvious, you are dead if you don't get the jokes. We have brought several reality shows from Britain, as well. As game shows. Amrrican Idol and all its copies, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, America's Got Talent, Dancing witht h e Stars. . .
Funny. Were not the Norman Lear sitcoms all based on British ones?
