Thanks, suckers. You work hard, you pay your taxes, and California welfare recipients are using their welfare cards like credit cards with no credit limits.
In the last couple of year, they’ve drawn $69 million in California welfare payments while out of state. Hell, out of state wouldn’t even be so bad if they weren’t pissing your money away in casinos and on cruises and shopping sprees.
The Los Angeles Times has the disturbing details:
Las Vegas tops the list with $11.8 million spent at casinos or taken from ATMs, but transactions in Hawaii, Miami, Guam and elsewhere also raise questions. Officials say budget cuts hinder investigations.
More than $69 million in California welfare money, meant to help the needy pay their rent and clothe their children, has been spent or withdrawn outside the state in recent years, including millions in Las Vegas, hundreds of thousands in Hawaii and thousands on cruise ships sailing from Miami.
State-issued aid cards have been used at hotels, shops, restaurants, ATMs and other places in 49 other states, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam, according to data obtained by The Times from the California Department of Social Services. Las Vegas drew $11.8 million of the cash benefits, far more than any other destination. The money was accessed from January 2007 through May 2010.
Free credit cards. Free money. Free cruises. Free hotel rooms. Free shopping. All paid for by the suckers formerly known as taxpayers.

All bets are off as far as California voters are concerned. They lead the pack in stupid. To quote Ron White "You can't fix stupid." So, there's your explanation of the problem. If you need further evidence reference Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer and a host of others. We have a seemingly never-ending supply of stupid politicians as a result.
In 1987 I worked as a construction supervisor for improvements to a state line casino between California and Nevada. Part of that work included refurbishing the “soft count” room. That is the part of a casino that cashes checks and distributes cash. During one days work re-wiring the security cameras I noticed large stacks of California computer generated checks. Realizing what they were I decided to set my measuring tape next to the stacks and later extrapolated the amount of the checks present by the heights of the stacks. In one weekend there were over 3 feet total height in checks. That equated to roughly 64 checks per inch times 36 equating to approximately 2144 checks. At $500 per check on average that equals $1,072,000.00 per weekend. That’s one casino, voters. Let’s say for the fun of it that this only happened once a month and 12 times a year. That equals $12,864.000.00 per year. Now times that by 22 years and that equals $283,008,000.00 from one casino. People aren’t that stupid, not even in California. They may want this system, they may need this system, and they most certainly have this system. But, no one group of voters can be that stupid? Or can they?
Never underestimate the stupidity of dumbocrat libtard voters... they keep putting the likes of Boxer, Pelosi, Reid, etc. etc. in office... not to mention Kennedy & Byrd (may they burn in Hell).
Why is this a surprise to anyone?
Remember the outrage after Katrina? "OMG!!! People are spending the 1k cash cards at STRIP CLUBS! And at the... *gasp*...MALL! Not on food, shelter or cheaper clothing than J. Crew, fer cryin' out loud!"
The problem is, the bureaucrats that be, do not factor in human behavior. In this case, human behavior in the form of people who have no sense of self-preservation, since they don't have to worry about where the money will come from next month. They know it comes in the mail (old school) or in today's techie world, instant download on the plastic thanks to the taxpaying suckas!
On a positive note, I guess those places that have benefited from the spending spree can thank the California welfare recipients for helping to stimulate the economy!
Amen DJ... We had several "Katrina Refugee's" that were arrested and booked for swindling their fellow refugee's out of their cash cards... They were scamming the aged, infirm, and ignorant out of them by giving them $100.00 for the card and pin, then going to ATM's and drawing as much as they could in cash every day. The banks red flagged them and then the cops got involved.
On a side note, the day the cash cards came out, all liquor stores in the county reported record sales...
