Chris Matthews plays both parts in Dumb and Dumber sequel. On HBO’s Real Time last night, he claimed that unemployment under Bush was “well past ten percent and skyrocketing.” Actually, it didn’t hit ten percent until October of 2009.

I wonder if he was referring to U6? The Obama administration has been using U3 to describe their own unemployment rate, but U6 when its a Republican administration. It looks like U6 peaked just above 10% in 2005 and was on the way down in 2008. It skyrocketed in Obama's first year and has stayed above 14% the entire time peaking at 17.2% in Oct 2009.
