Comedian hauled before Canadian Language Police for insulting lesbian hecklers

Guy Earle

What the hell is going on in the Great White Multi-cultured North?

First they took political humorist Mark Steyn before their Human Rights Commission. Then they threatened to do the same to Ann Coulter. Now a Canadian comedian is in trouble for insulting some lesbian hecklers.

This is no joke. They’re going after a comedian for responding to hecklers.

Guy Earle, a twenty-year veteran of the stand-up circuit, was the volunteer master of ceremonies for an amateur comedy night in Vancouver back in May 2007 when the disturbing incident occurred:

CNews reports the retorts:

Lorna Pardy and her same-sex partner had moved to seats near the stage after the patio closed. Pardy’s lawyer says as they spoke with the waitress they were bombarded by a series of gay slurs courtesy of Earle.

But Earle, who lives in Georgetown, Ont., and has a day job as a physicist, has a different version of events and said his remarks come with the comedy show territory.

“When you heckle me and you’ve been disrespectful through the whole show, I come from the George Carlin school of dealing with a heckler,” he said in an interview. “So yeah, I shoved it down their throat and that’s what you do.”

Earle said the women were disruptive, not only ordering their drinks loudly but ignoring his requests to quiet down because a new comedian was about to take the stage. In fact, he said, they purposely got louder.

“As an MC, it’s kind of your duty to make sure that nobody’s disrupting the show, nobody’s heckling, nobody’s derailing it,” he said.

“These guys at this point, they’re making out and flipping me the bird.”

Earle said the next comedian’s act fizzled and he couldn’t even hear the comedian because the women spoke over him.

Earle went back up to introduce the next comic when one of the women allegedly yelled two expletives and said he wasn’t funny.

Earle countered by calling her unattractive and suggested male genitalia should be inserted in her mouth.

“I have the right to be offensive,” he said. “Because they didn’t find it funny doesn’t mean they can take me to the human rights tribunal.”

…

Pardy’s complaint says Earle’s actions violate Section 8 of the B.C. Human Rights Code. The code says a person must not, without a bona fide and reasonable justification, discriminate against a person or class of persons regarding any accommodation, service or facility customarily available to the public.

Bottom line? The lesbian wants money. $20,000, to be exact. Based on this case, it’s no wonder the Canadian dollar features a loon.

    • Seek political asylym in a more moderate muslim country OR the US or a an European country. I feel for you. I pray for you.

    • If people don't know you are gay in Iran, & you can leave for whatever reason, do it. A holiday/vacation, visit family abroad, or look for work somewhere else & look to seek legal advice about asylum. Explain the situation & don't quit trying. Do this before you are found out.

  • The gay, lesbian, transexual population wants equal treatment. That is exactly what they got. Not only equality in the fact that ANYONE who hassles comedians will get hassled back; the more heckling, the more hassling by the commedian. But equality in that the response they incurred was equal to the heckling and rudeness they were hading out. If you can't take it, don't dish it out.

  • Y'know there is freedom of speech in Canada but it's not absolute and I'm more than fine with that. You do not get to say whatever you want and then turn around and claim you were provoked especially if what you said was hate speech. The comedian who's routine the couple ruined was apparently able to get off the stage without resorting to personal attacks, but no it's only the poor MC who eventually decides that the only way he can diffuse the situation is by resorting the childish taunting. I've seen comedians handle hecklers before, you can be brutal and funny about it without sinking to that man's level. This is a case where he definitely shouldn't quit his day job.

    • it isn't free speech if the government can punish you for what you say purely because it hurts the feelings of individuals.
You don't have free speech in Canada anymore. You have the right to say whatever those in power say you have the right to say.

      • "It isn’t free speech if the government can punish you for what you say purely because it hurts the feelings of individuals."

        Exactly!
Don't forget that Brigitte Bardot was convicted and fined 5 different times over the course of 10 years for "inciting racial hatred" for her opinions. Unreal! Truly the French have gone off the deep end in the PC department and I'm afraid we're next with this Administration and their minions demonizing the Tea Party and the supposed 'danger' the regular folks are that oppose the gov't. But remember, in the '60's it was OK to oppose the gov't, right?

        • I do believe that Bridgitte Bardot is a misanthrope although she is able to have relatively good relationships with individual people overall. With that said, if she wants to hate people that is her problem she has never incited any type of violence though.

I don't understand how people cannot see that this is not right for a country to determine what we should say (as long as it does not contain violent threats to people). If we cannot express ourselves we loose a great deal of our ability to be human.

  • This is the same kangeroo court that wanted to shut Mark Styne up as well. That case was involving islam. The whole idea of ANYTHING deemed offensive by a hypersensitive, hyper-reactionary idiot LOOKING to be offended is what is really offensive here. Plus I'm looking forward to having to not offend anyone when I go to Canada later this summer, oh goodie.

  • He's my hero! I've witnessed lesbians making out at the mall, in stores & on the street. It is behaviour we would not accept from anyone else. It's getting to the point that WE the people have NO rights, but these offensive groups must be tolerated no matter what they do. Human rights my a$$!

  • Looks like the Gay Mafia has stolen a favorite tactic of the Muslims - create an incident by acting like an a-hole, and then sue when people react. What's next, lesbians asking for seat belt extenders on airplanes?

  • i dont care if he went full blown hate speech up there, saying something to piss someone off should not be considered a violation of human rights
