If you don’t build it, they won’t come: Construction workers won’t work on Ground Zero mosque

Remember the Reagan Democrats? That’s what they called groups of traditional Democrat voters who voted for Ronald Reagan. Union workers, for example, voted for Reagan and against Democrats en masse.

That may be what we’re seeing the beginnings of as a result of the Ground Zero mosque controversy.

The New York Daily News has the details:

A growing number of New York construction workers are vowing not to work on the mosque planned near Ground Zero.

“It’s a very touchy thing because they want to do this on sacred ground,” said Dave Kaiser, 38, a blaster who is working to rebuild the World Trade Center site.

“I wouldn’t work there, especially after I found out about what the imam said about U.S. policy being responsible for 9/11,” Kaiser said.

The grass-roots movement is gaining momentum on the Internet. One construction worker created the “Hard Hat Pledge” on his blog and asked others to vow not to work on the project if it stays on Park Place.

“Thousands of people are signing up from all over the country,” said creator Andy Sullivan, a construction worker from Brooklyn. “People who sell glass, steel, lumber, insurance. They are all refusing to do work if they build there.”

“Hopefully, this will be a tool to get them to move it,” he said. “I got a problem with this ostentatious building looming over Ground Zero.”

Can’t wait to hear Democrats say that those damn construction workers are nothing but racists. Or maybe Nazis. Or maybe both.

  • I have been saying for a long time that the hoo-rah over where this mosque was being built was senseless rhetoric from both sides of the political aisle. People must be hired to do the work and in New York that means union workers. Somebody has to supply the concrete. Somebody has to haul the mud to the site. Somebody has to supply the steel then iron workers must be hired to erect the building.

Union or not, GO NEW YORK! All the money in the world can't get a building built in your city if you don't want it there. Being the smartass I am I would agree to deliver one yard of concrete and one 4 foot piece of rebar. I would dump the concrete in the middle of the site, stick the iron in it, then tell Imams here you go, this is your foundation. Nice doing business with you.

  • dear sir i am requesting for renovation and repairing funds for our mosque located at our street in sindh Pakistan. Is any body there who can help and support me in this noble cause. If u will help me i will be thankful to u and God will mercy upon u and give peace and endless happiness , satisfaction and comfort. thanks..

  • American workers unite , NO iron workers , NO plumbers , NO carpenters , NO electricians , NO truck drivers MADE IN THE U.S.A.

  • "Millions for defense, sir, but not one cent for tribute!" or mosque construction/renovation !

  • a wonderful example of misdirection:
search of the term “mosque” on the State Department’s list of “projects” reveals 26 examples of federal funds going to fund construction, renovation, and rehabilitation of various mosques abroad. The benefiting countries include Bulgaria, Pakistan, Mali, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Benin, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Egypt, Tunisia, the Maldives, Yemen, Turkmenistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Azerbaijan, Sudan, Serbia and Montenegro.
The U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) — which is putting millions toward “heritage preservation” projects in the developing world — financed mosque-related projects in all the aforementioned countries.
thank you obama, I really want the religion of peace to be funded by my tax dollars?? that is until I refuse to convert to a cult!

    • I'm thinking that most union membership needs to form a union to defend themselves against their union 'leadership'. After all, that's who's advocating all of the scabs ^H^H^H "illegals" ^H^H^H "undocumented workers" to gut every single union achievement of the past fifty years. Their leadership has to love them. Strike pay never paid, no complaints, nobody challenging them on the direction they are taking the union.

A word to the SEIU unwise: They came for the meat packers and cut their wages in half, (so the job became one that US citizens didn't want to do), they came for the construction workers and they're working for half-pay without the safety equipment they fought tooth and nail for, they're coming for the teamsters, and they're coming for you once they're legalized. All's I can say when that happens is that it couldn't happen to a worse bunch of koolaid-drinking ninnies.

Again -- union leadership adores illegal aliens. There's profit in having employees who won't strike and just pay their dues -- the union protection racket got stood on its head, and collects from the workers now. They have done a de facto contracting out of their own scabs. That's gotta hurt for all the Walt Kowalskis of the world.

I just hope the payoff they got was worth it for gutting their country.

  • These construction workers are obviously racist Nazis who hate the religion of peace. Shame on those bigots. Can they not see the fact that they are building this mosque for unity?/Bleeding sarcasm
