Is Dan Rather a racist? Despite this outrageous comment, we don’t think so. We think it was just a poor attempt on Rather’s part to create one of those artificially-folksy idioms for which he’s famous.
Rather: Part of the undertow in the coming election is going to be President Obama’s leadership. And the Republicans will make a case and a lot of independents will buy this argument. “Listen he just hasn’t been, look at the health care bill. It was his number one priority. It took him forever to get it through and he had to compromise it to death.” And a version of, “Listen he’s a nice person, he’s very articulate” this is what’s been used against him, “but he couldn’t sell watermelons if you gave him the state troopers to flag down the traffic.”
Now, then, had you asked Is Dan Rather stupid, well, that’s a whole different question.

But... wouldn't Barry selling watermelons hurt the sales of the illegal Mexicans selling oranges on the side of the road? The ones who, due to their being outside the law, cannot get gainful and decent paying employment in the open market? (Hint- another reason to come here LEGALLY! Being an illegal hurts the person who comes into the country him/herself and is all the more reason to go trough the process of citizenship the correct and honest way!)

So I'm guessing Fuzzy Zoeller might be a bit amused by the lack of reaction to Rather.
Obviously, the only reason this is even remotely judged to be racist is because of the word "watermelons." If Rather had said roses or rutabagas or rice cakes, no controversy. And no face-time for ol' Dan-o, come to think of it. Slip of the tongue, or calculated to make him momentarily relevant and give the hand-wringers another reason to tell us what a rotten country we have, people saying terrible, racist things and all. Anything to tear us apart.
I am an Independent, this statement is not racist and this is not a slip of tongue.

It is possible that it wasn't intentionally racist. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but yes had a conservative or Republican or even an independent that does not aligned with the Progressives had said it, this would not be passed over as a simple slip of the tongue.

We shouldn't be surprised by now that the mainstream media has completely ignored Rather's racist slip-up (if it had been Limbaugh, look out!) but it's still disappointing to see their how often their double-standards are at play.
