Is that a camera lens in your pocket? Dan Rather crew strip searched by Israeli security

Dan Rather is upset that Israeli security forces treated his TV crew like Bill Clinton treats interns. They strip-searched them.

What's the big deal? Dan Rather's been dropping his pants for liberals for years.

The Associated Press reports the naked truth:

Andrew Glazer, an Emmy-award winning producer at Dan Rather Reports, wrote that the legendary anchorman came to do a story about improving Israeli-Palestinian relations pitched by Israel’s Foreign Ministry.

Glazer said problems mounted after they arrived. He said they were held up for hours at security checks. Israeli soldiers barred the crew’s veteran Palestinian cameramen — a Jerusalem resident — from accompanying Rather to a West Bank neighborhood.

And then came the a strip search before an interview with Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor.

“Mr. Rather said that in his career, he had never seen a crew forced to strip prior to an interview — including the one he conducted with Saddam Hussein,” Glazer wrote.

This word just in: Barney Frank has announced that he is resigning his position in Congress and applying for a job with Israeli security.

Dan Rather says Obama will face primary challenge if he caves on taxes, immediately followed by Obama caving on taxes

Dan Rather warned today on MSNBC that a deal to extend all of the current tax hikes would create a demand for a primary challenge to Barack Obama from the Left in 2012.

Oh, that colorful country boy Dan Rather. He’s just full of homespun homilies. Why, as he might say, “I’m full of what comes out of the south end of a northbound bull.”

HotAir.com described the situation pretty damn well:

Dan Rather warned today on MSNBC that a deal to extend all of the current tax hikes would create a demand for a primary challenge to Barack Obama from the Left in 2012. Big progressive contributors to the Democratic Party have already concluded that Obama won’t fight for his principles, Rather told the “Lean Forward” network, and that the Bush-era tax rates would be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Actually, Rather offers a more complicated down-homish colorful metaphor, but essentially says that the Left is so shocked, shocked! that this lifetime backbencher provides no leadership that they will actively recruit someone with those qualities for the 2012 cycle.

Of course, mere hours after Rather made this dire forecast, Obama caved on all the Republican demands for extensions of the Bush tax cuts and then poked his left wing supporters in the eye by proposing his own Social Security tax cut.

As Dan might say, “I’m feeling lower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut.”

Dan Rather calls Katie Couric a whore

We’re not sure how this old story slipped by everyone, but it did. Dan Rather called Katie Couric a whore. We’re sure you’ll agree that there’s no other way to interpret the wizened old newsman’s words.

Whore Katie Couric doing a whore dance

The Media Research Center has the details:

Speaking of sexism, on the June 11, 2007 Morning Joe, Rather attacked Katie Couric, his successor at the CBS Evening News, this way: “The mistake was to try to bring the ‘Today’ show ethos to the evening news and to dumb it down, tart it up in hopes of attracting a younger audience.”

Tart it up? That didn’t sound very nice to us, so we checked the definition of “tart” at Princeton.edu’s online dictionary:

Tart: prostitute, a woman who engages in sexual intercourse for money

Now in interest of full disclosure, the second definition of tart is “a small open pie with a fruit filling.” But we doubt that that’s what Dan Rather meant.

No, Rather clearly called Katie Couric a whore, a prostitute, a harlot, a hooker, a fallen woman, a slut, a strumpet, a tramp, a working girl, a streetwalker, a lady of the evening news, if you will.

Damn. First time we’ve ever agreed with Dan Rather on anything.

From the look on Chris Matthews’ face, either (a) his mom just died, or (b) he just admitted Republicans will win the senate

Did we see a little quiver in Chris Matthews upper lip? A little tear forming at the corner of his eye? Maybe it was just our imagination. But maybe not.

Rather: Look, there’s, there are a lot of angry people out there, and a lot of scared people. People vote their pocketbooks. That’s number one. Number two, overnight’s a long time in politics. A week is forever. We still have a long time to go and a lot of things can happen between now and November. As we sit here today, odds on the Republicans take the House – I know Democrats don’t want to hear it – retake the house.

Matthews: (glumly) I agree with that.

Rather: And the Democrats, because of the figures that have so many in the Senate, probably hold on to the Senate. And it will change the center of gravity in American politics unless something dramatic happens between now and November.

Dan Rather says Obama “couldn’t sell watermelons.” Unknown if Rather thinks he could sell fried chicken.

Is Dan Rather a racist? Despite this outrageous comment, we don’t think so. We think it was just a poor attempt on Rather’s part to create one of those artificially-folksy idioms for which he’s famous.

Rather: Part of the undertow in the coming election is going to be President Obama’s leadership. And the Republicans will make a case and a lot of independents will buy this argument. “Listen he just hasn’t been, look at the health care bill. It was his number one priority. It took him forever to get it through and he had to compromise it to death.” And a version of, “Listen he’s a nice person, he’s very articulate” this is what’s been used against him, “but he couldn’t sell watermelons if you gave him the state troopers to flag down the traffic.”

Now, then, had you asked Is Dan Rather stupid, well, that’s a whole different question.

Disgraced media star calls for Media Czar

Dan Rather is out to save the rapidly-depleting stock of journalists, reporters, editors and empty-headed news anchors by asking for a media czar.

"Hello? Mr. President. It's Czar Rather. I have a typo on page 3. Go to DefCon 4."
"Hello? Mr. President. It's Czar Rather. I have a typo on page 3. Go to DefCon 4."

The sky may be falling and the earth may be boiling polar bear cubs at a rapid rate, but Dan Rather, a leading, but by no means only reason journalism is no longer respected, is out to save the rapidly-depleting stock of journalists, reporters, editors and empty-headed news anchors.

Rather, who spoke at the Aspen Institute, called for the Obama administration to create a “commission on public media.” The commission would, among other things, try to find new business models to help save media outlets because, if it’s one thing that the hundreds of years of the free enterprise system has shown us, it’s that people are incapable of creating a business model without the interference from a government commission.

Remember the Commission On 144-Character Micro-Blogging Messages that brought us Twitter?

“A truly free and independent press is the red beating heart of democracy and freedom,” Rather said in an interview. (A free and independent press that is overseen by a government commission?)

The commission might also be able to help forge documents, too, like military letters about presidents whose politics you don’t necessarily agree with.

If the commission is created, we would need another Czar, a Czar of All Media.

Let’s see. Where could we find a liberal, out-of-work journalist who left his career in disgrace and may need another shot at proving his worth before he’s rolled up like newspapers used to be and tossed away in the dustbin of media history?

Hmmm. Who could that be?

Liar to hire. Rather is looking for help.

dan_rather_reportsDan Rather says he’s hiring. Can we believe him this time?

HDNet’s “Dan Rather Reports,” a show no one watches, is supposedly looking for more correspondents. We use the word “supposedly” because we’ve learned to be careful when judging the veracity of anything reported by Rather.

“We’re doing an enormous amount of shows—42 a year,” said Wayne Nelson, Rather’s executive producer. “Which is hard for anybody. Dan’s been all over the place, and he’s not stopping.”

Nelson added that bringing in additional correspondents would reduce Rather’s workload and give him time to visit more international hotspots.

What is “Dan Rather Reports” looking for in a new hire? “Give me another Dan Rather,” Nelson said. “I’ll take one of those.

So if there are any 78-year old confirmed liars out there looking for work, call Dan Rather.

He has a job for you.

Dan Rather wants Obama to do something. And he wants it done now, damn it.

Add formerly-credible newsman Dan Rather to the list of people who are unhappy with the Obama administration.

“Where is the outrage from We The People?,” Rather complained. “And where is the outrage—or sense of outrage—from the Treasury Department, from Congress, and, yes, from the White House and the new president himself?”

“We are in a downward economic spiral and the worst is probably yet to come,” he continued. “The situation threatens our own and future generations. Yet there is no transparency, no accountability, and no clearly-stated plan to pull us out.”

Rather’s tirade was interrupted when caretakers found the cantankerous old newsman huddled in a corner talking to himself. They wiped up the spittle from the corners of his mouth and took him back to his room or as he likes to call it, “Studio One.”

Saddam Hussein loved the sound of Dan Rather’s voice.

"No one is listening...must be a party line"
"No one is listening...must be a party line"

Remember Dan Rather’s interview with Saddam Hussein before the start of the war in Iraq? Rather told reporters he practiced all his questions while standing in front of a mirror in his hotel room.

But in a new book, “Hide and Seek: The Search for Truth in Iraq,” author Charles Duelfer notes that Saddam had Baghdad so heavily bugged that he undoubtedly heard every word of Rather’s rehearsal.

“It is simply surprising,” observed Duelfer, “that someone as worldly as Dan Rather would not assume his room was bugged in one of the most security-conscious regimes on the planet.”

Surprising that Rather could be stupid? If you believe that, I have some phony National Guard documents I’d like to sell you.
