Some restaurants you go to for the atmosphere. Some restaurants you go to because they’re cheap. Given that the atmosphere at Taco Bell’s is largely methane, the faux Mexican fast food chain fits decidedly into the latter category. And so it is reasonable to believe that some customers may have an adverse reaction to price increases –- not to mention the Grade H meat.
Reuters reveals the whole enchilada:
A Taco Bell drive-through customer who became enraged because of a price increase on Beefy Crunch Burritos fired a BB gun through the window at a manager on Sunday, police said.
As the restaurant’s employees and customers hit the floor, the manager called police, and when officers arrived, the angry patron fired several shots at the police cars, Benavides said.
The man then barricaded himself inside a nearby motel room, sparking a standoff that lasted until police lobbed tear gas inside and the man surrendered.
Benavides said the burritos had been sold for 99 cents each as a promotion, but the man was apparently angry that the promotion had ended, and the price had gone up to $1.49.
The name of the ‘taco rage’ suspect has not been released because he had not yet been formally charged early Monday. Benavides said that the man will be charged with three counts of attempted capital murder, and that additional charges are possible.

This occurred in San Antonio, Texas. The moron actually got involved in a huge standoff deal at a local motel before he surrendered. See what I have to put up with living here?

Come on folks, don't be too hard on Taco Bell, just don't go for all their newer, promotional crap. I remember when the first Taco Bell opened in Albuquerque in the early 1970's and I still love their old standbys. The original bean burrito or taco, I always ask for sour cream on them, are still some of the best fast foods you can find.
In San Bernardino in the 60s, Taco Bell was just making a name for itself. But the little outdoor taco stands they called Taco-ettes had them beat by an LA mile, even way back then...

Yes, late 60s....Early 60s in Fairfield in the Napa Valley. I was too young to drink the wine, but I remember eating the grapes the dates, the apples and anything else that grew in our yard.
In Berdoo, we had these trees in our back yard: Apricot, plum, apple, pear, lime, lemon, grape vines on the patio lattice, and a banana tree that put out one stalk of bananas a year. We also had a pomegranate tree down the street, we'd snatch some from. But they are all gone now from the huge long droughts of the 70s. The last time I drove down that street, it looked like a desert town with cacti and tumbleweeds. the trees were mostly gone.
I was born and raised there. It has now turned into one of the most awful towns in America.
Do you remember the '76 and Bingo truckstops off I-10 on Milliken Ave.? Or TruckTown on Cherry Ave.? The TA truckstop east of Milliken came later but when it first opened it was a good place to get off of the highway.
Many years ago I thought I wanted to be a truck driver and these are the places I remember best about being in the San Bernadino/Ontario area. TruckTown looked like a dump but you could get a good meal there, reasonably priced, any time of the day. And, there was a beer joint or two withing walking distance when you could still walk the streets. Last time I heard, that is not a good idea.
The Bingo was a real dump but you could get some kind of Kentucky fried, broasted, steamed, chicken kind of stuff to eat, and a cold beer for the night. It was hard to sleep because of all the hookers and dope dealers roaming the parking lot at night but what the hell. I kept the doors locked and my 9mm close at all times. Remember, I was a young man at the time and full of myself, afraid of nothing!
Truck Town on Cherry is still there, or at least it was a few years ago. I took a truck there to get weighed, and the hookers were just walking up in front of the trucks and lifting their shirts. There was even a few that I didn't have to turn away from. Some truck stops keep the lots free of lot lizards, some just don't care.

I didn't make it to HS there but would have gone to Pacific. I went to Fairfax Elem.. Played football and basketball against Hunt and some other whose names escape me.

Ahh yes. Colton. You are right, the whole area has gone to hell. Del Rosa and Baseline the area I once lived in. It looks like a rat's nest now.
I had a girlfriend who lived near Highland & Del Rosa for many years (yes, I had a life before Mrs Editor). San Bernardino is now known for two things - for being the meth amphetamine capital of the United States and for being the most corrupt county in the United States.
And the county is a big one....size-wise, that is.
As for being ranked #1 in meth, was that the writers poll or the coaches poll?
Hah! I was born in St. Bernardine's, in '57. But my mom took me off to El Monte. Ok, so it wasn't actually an improvement. Yeah, the whole area of San Bernardino is a rat hole now. I remember building the streets for a tract of new homes in Fontana a few years ago. The houses were going for half a mill each. I guess they were selling them to people that don't know that Fontana is known to all Southern California Police Departments as Felony Flats.

Worst. Food. Ever. Years ago I ate at a Taco Bell and I was also tempted to shoot up the place. It's bad food poorly prepared by surly employees.

It does seem excessive all I can think of is that he shot at the cops, as to the real reason for it.
But still, don't you have to actually use a deadly weapon for it to be attempted murder? I got shot with a pellet gun, which is much more powerful than a BB-bun, from 3 feet away, and there was no danger of death. The doctor gave me the option of cutting the crap out of my ribs to get the pellet out, or leaving it in, since it wouldn't do any harm. So it's still there, 3/4" in, right between two ribs. I didn't even know I'd been shot until the altercation was all over.
