Think of Pigford v. Glickman as back door reparations and you’ll know damn near everything you need to know about the case.
Except for these fascinating facts: You had to be a black farmer to qualify to get paid the federal government. There were only 18,000 black farmers. 92,000 “black farmers” signed up to get their share of the government gold. Congress approved it, but now they want to pay out even more. It’s like the lottery on a much grander scale.

Pigford v. Glickman was a class action lawsuit against the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), alleging racial discrimination in its allocation of farm loans and assistance between 1983 and 1997. The lawsuit ended with a settlement in which the U.S. government agreed to pay African American farmers $50,000 each if they had attempted to get USDA help but failed. To date, almost $1 billion has been paid or credited to the farmers under the settlement’s consent decree.
Turns out $1 billion isn’t enough for the income redistributing socialists in Congress. No, not nearly enough. Democrats think it would be a really good idea to ante up another $1.2 billion to pay off all those black farmers who aren’t black or aren’t farmers or aren’t both.

Nah, this is a handout to politicians and the politically connected.
Just another "program" to help to solidify the dumbocrat vote. This is but one more ruse to convince blacks that dumbocrats are their friends, when historically and factually, nothing could be further from the truth. How's that war on poverty working out for those poor blacks and others the liberals are so proud of?
Man, the liberals need to be forced out of controlling the education system....the lies and deceit of revisionist history is well beyond out of control. It is time the truth be told. I've said it before, I'll say it again....these programs, both welfare (NOT what MLK was talking about) and this newest irresponsible legislation are nothing but a new form of slavery. The democrats, in particular southern democrats fought tooth and nail the civil rights act, with only 9 of 69 democrats voting to ratify it. The ones that pushed for, the ones that fought for, the ones that introduced it, were republicans. Factually indisputable...but do the liberal history books support that today? It was a rhetorical question, btw. It really is unfortunate that most blacks have absolutely no concept of their cultural history in this country....

I highly respect de Tocqueville, but I beg to differ.
The problem is, they can start to try to buy the public with the public's money, but eventually, they will run out of money, and either have to debase the currency, or face the music. The problem with debasing the currency is you have to do it slowly. When you do it too fast, wages & government handouts can't keep up with the new cost of living. However, in order to be self-sustaining at bribing the public, Congress would have to have some self-control, and that's simply not possible with the current crew.
It's made it a lot further than it would have in his day -- there are a lot more financial flim flammery tactics to put off the inevitable, but I think that right now, we're seeing some pretty nasty budgetary chickens coming home to roost. It can only mean disaster for the Democrats and the RINOs that enable them. Obama needs some Carter-style 20% inflation to duck the current debt, and with the new entitlements, they can't sustain that, either.
I do believe Barry did break the system, but I don't think he was successful in breaking it the way he wanted. I think he massively underestimated the American People, who have always had an independent streak, and are a poor candidate for socialism.
The pendulum is swinging back toward the right. The trick for the non-political class is to stop it from swinging back.

Yeah, the sad part is, there *were* black farmers who got shafted by the USDA, and they had to fight for years to get treated the same. I disagree with the whole ag subsidy bit -- seems like the farmers that benefit the most are the ones that need it the least.
Now it has turned into a way for politicians to subsidize their acreages/estates. First they get their property zoned agricultural, so their property taxes are cheaper, and now, to pile insult upon fraud, they want to get the taxpayers to mail them checks. I guarantee you that if this program were audited, there'd be more corruptocrats up there in front of the House boohooing through their apologies.
They had a scandal about this in my neck of the woods -- and one particular congressman, whose name rhymed with 'Ben Nelson" hit on the dodge of raising 'wild turkeys' on his property (hint: wild turkeys roam wherever they want -- they're another form of feathered rat, much like seagulls.)

You may note that the commenters have trouble deciding what to call him, sometimes resorting to the pejorative 'DINO'. I'd personally prefer to call him 'ex-senator', but I'll have to wait until 2012 for that.
We appreciate the offer, but we suspect that since you actually grow something you do not qualify as a farmer. Nevertheless, we will begin working on this important project immediately.
