Earliest the Great Lakes have frozen since the 1930s

• Maybe the AGW uber-geniuses can take a boat out on one of the great lakes and get stuck in some more ice that isn't supposed to be there. Great computer models, green losers.

• Global Warming run amuck, it may already be too late to reverse the effects, so send me all your money, and from my 25,000 square foot mansion on the Pacific Coast I will make the sun reduce it's energy output.

• That pesky global warming again. The Great Lakes are freezing early. The ice in the Antarctic Ocean is capturing ships and leaving all those global warming scientist (frauds) freezing their collective asses off.

• I lived in Bay View, a trendy little community today on Milwaukee's south side, 200 yards from Lake Michigan all through the decade of the 70s. The winter of 76-77 and again of 78-79 saw that giant body of water freeze over at least 90%. That's a lot of ice. This was shortly after the global cooling socialization scheme attempt. My 67 T-Bird 4 door croaked in the first one. It was below 0 Fahrenheit for over 30 days. THAT is an actual deep freeze.

  • You have to treat cars differently, don't you? I'm bringing all my old Michigan tricks out of mothballs now that I'm back: don't leave anything on when you park you car for the night because you might need every last electron in the morning to get the engine started; never leave the wipers on because they'll be frozen to the windshield when you get back and the wiper motor won't be happy with you; read the labels on the windshield washer fluid because some of them freeze in the really cold weather; don't leave your keys in the car and rely on the fob to unlock the doors because when it gets to be -10 the doors hunker down and stop listening to fobs; don't use your electric windows for the first half hour in the morning - it's not worth it; don't breathe either for the first half hour because your breath will just freeze on the windshield; etc.

    • And plug in the car to keep the oil warm

    • And have a block/oil heater that you can plug in at night, and mix your anti-freeze greater than 50/50 to avoid running slush through the radiator. That's how we roll in AK.

      • I remember when HEET would disappear from the shelves. Even without that fuel drying agents it used to be reasonable to expect no frozen gas lines as long as the tank was full, very full. But 30 below didn't care by the time 94 octane unleaded was the hottest gas you could get.

      • The block heaters are a great idea. I know people that had reasonable success even with the ones that you just stuck in in place of the oil dip stick. My dad used to run a 100 watt incandescent under the hood which apparently helped significantly.

        • Damn I'm getting older I remember doing the same thing as a teenager to keep my 1972 Ford Torino running.

          Hey those old 100 watt bulbs worked great. Now they are not around and you have to purchase all kinds of things just to do what a 100 watt less than a dollar light bulb would do.

        • Whoa! That was close. You almost mentioned a '73 Gran Torino, and when that happens, chills run down my spine. That's what ran me over when I was 16 and did most of the major damage to my right leg. And it didn't even have the decency to be painted like Starsky and Hutch's car.

He dragged me and the motorcycle for quite a while before he realized there was a problem, according to the off-duty officer that was in the car behind him. The one that most likely saved my life by putting a tourniquet on my leg. Thanks again, sir.

        • That's what we used to do, but then in NJ it only got into the -10 to -20 range at night.

  • I remember the high in January 1994 was 5 above when I lived in Madison. No one made a particularly big deal out of it.

• You smart ass deniers are so obtuse. This is just another manifestation of AGW. Sure the super smarty climate scientists and their Excel spread sheets said it would be ice free, this sure doesn't disprove our tax...er science.

  Expect some very hilarious and outrageously hysterical claims about what AGW will be doing in the next 50-100 years. The more these con men and useful idiots get proven wrong by reality the worse it will get with dire predictions.

  Oh and there is now a Fifth Tenet to the Cult of AlGore:

  When the Great Lakes are ice free it is due to AGW.
  When the Great Lakes are frozen it is due to AGW.

  • Last couple of weeks, I've been asking Warmingologists on other sites to provide one example of a dispositive data set which they accept as conclusive disproof of the "Anthropogenic Global Warming Hypothesis," and reminding them that falsifiability is one of the linchpins of scientific methodology.

    So far, nothing but lectures on consensus, and abuse. Try it, it's fun!
