Calling for socialism, world govt control and pissing off the social conservatives (which are the rock of his Church). So he stands firm on gays, Woo-hoo. That has been decided socially already and does nothing but make the Church more marginalized.

The Book of Isaiah very very much lays it out and even if perhaps "allegorical" the Book of Revelation and the Book of Daniel are very specific about a World Government and its role in the destruction of the world. For a man in his position to not realize what his words and ideas are doing is absolutely baffling.

I also found it rather amusing that he's allegedly claimed the world population should be reduced by about 6 billiion, yet he's not coming out for birth control. Don't want to have those Catholic donations go down now do we?
I don't think it was the pope himself who said the population needed to be reduced by 6 billion. I think it was one of the members of the committee advising him that said that. Which tells you all you need to know about that committee.
