FTC: Healthcare ruling is prompting scams. Scam artists contact consumers, “say they’re from the government” and use the Affordable Care Act as a hook to verify information, according to an FTC alert. In other words, Obamacare is the mother of all scams.

Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages.   • I can only hope that those being duped are the same morons who are for this missed abortion of a healthcare bill in the first place. The dupers and the dupees deserve each other.

  • How do you tell a real government information gathering employee from a scam artist? The scam artist is polite.

    • I'm surprised people would even give information to the scam artist. As a census taker, some people just slammed the door immediately.

      • These scam artists are, of course, promising free stuff from the government. That opens the doors of the greedy, the confused and the credulous.

        The biggest scam artist of all can be found at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

          • I've been to old lady Winchester's mansion in San Jose. It's the sort of place you would design, with doors opening into walls, stairs going into walls & ceilings, & windows looking into nowhwere. If anyone else has been there, you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

          • Good thing there were others running the company, and designing the weapons, while she just collected the money and fed her insanity. Can you imagine a gun designed by her?

          • as you say flashing, she was crazy, she thought the souls of all the people who were killed with her pop's guns, were coming to get her, thus the strange architecture of her mansion. meant to confuse the ghosts who came for her. :D
            Never been there, but i do tend to read a lot. also: census takers are mere propagators of govt. control! BOO.

          • Census takers need to know one thing and one thing only: how many people live at the residence.
