Gulp: Gallup poll hints that Republicans could pick up 100 seats. Repeat, 100 seats.

Well, slap us naked (and make sure Christine O’Donnell is in the room when you do it). We don’t want to get carried away or overconfident or even crazy here, but we’re one of those three and we just don’t know which one.

The Washington Examiner has the Michael Barone’s analysis:

Late yesterday, Gallup came out with new numbers on the generic ballot question—which party’s candidates would you vote for in the election for House of Representatives? Among registered voters Gallup shows Republicans ahead by 46%-42%, about as good a score as Republicans have ever had (and about as bad a score as Democrats have ever had) since Gallup started asking the question in 1942.

However, Gallup also shows the results for two different turnout models. Under its “high turnout model” Republicans lead 53%-40%. Under its “low turnout model” Republicans lead 56%-38%.

These two numbers, if translated into popular votes in the 435 congressional districts, suggest huge gains for Republicans and a Republican House majority the likes of which we have not seen since the election cycles of 1946 or even 1928. For months, people have been asking me if this year looks like ’94. My response is that the poll numbers suggest it looks like 1994, when Republicans gained 52 seats in a House of 435 seats. Or perhaps somewhat better for Republicans and worse for Democrats. The Gallup high turnout and low turnout numbers suggest it looks like 1894, when Republicans gained more than 100 seats in a House of approximately 350 seats.

You know, of course, what manly men we are here at IHateTheMedia.com, but we’re about to start squealing like little girls with puppies.

  • I agree with others saying we can't celebrate yet. ACORN is still out there, democrats are the kings of voter fraud. We need to stay energized and lay a little smackem-yackem on the socialist party in November.

  • The picture is not only the Pelosi lawn, but also the homes of those that vote about 300% Democrat/Communist and 0% GOP.

  • I'm telling you, if the numbers are somewhere near 100 seats, MSNBC will be THEEEEEE place to tune into on election night. It may end up looking like a support group. I can't wait.

    • I wanted to offer a poll, of who you guys think will be the first talking head to break down into tears, if things go the way we hope!

      Vote Often, The Democrats do!

      • Over at MSLD... Mathews will self destruct, Shultz will implode, Olberman will curl up into a little ball and suck his thumb, and Mad-cow will splutter incoherent gibberish... so it will pretty much be business as usual.

    • Spitzer will come up behind Schultz in a weird surrealistic slow-mo version of "American Me" as he says, "I told you not to do that rally."

Meanwhile, Matthews slumps in the corner like a used sock reciting, "The Horror, the horror."

Close with, The End by the doors.

  • Calm down guys. We must stay serious. Celebrate AFTER, not before. How many times has Gallup been wrong?

    Vote often! The democruds do!

  • When that happens...

and we ALL go to Tea Party Heaven, and none of us even thinks to log onto the Interweb...

...let alone IHTM, I wonder if Admins and Editors and Various 'Hangers On' will still be 'squealing like little girls with puppies.'.

    • I am interested in this Tea Party Heaven you speak of, could you describe it please? What about it would make us not want to log onto the internet?

      • Yeah! There's pictures of nekkid chicks on teh interwebz.

Actually, I am so mad about what happened after '94, that I will be watching like a hawk and waiting to hammer the point home to the republican establishment that if they think they get to belly up to the trough and say: "me, too", they're gonna have another think coming in '12.

        Never again.

  • It's far too early to shout hallelujah. There's still a month to go and the Donks have plenty of time and plenty of money; this campaign is going to get real dirty and nasty before election day, look for an "October Surprise". Also, lots of dead people vote in Chicago, Cleveland, Oakland and other Democrat strongholds---they know how to cheat. Finally, everyone hates Congress but loves their pork barrelling Congressman. We cannot take anything for granted this year.

  • Direct result of the 10.02 march. People saw what *they* are all about - less people are sitting on that fence now. Yahoo.

  • I can see it now-democrat canvassers walking through all the graveyards across the country writing down names, and the address of the cemetery.

  • I dont think the generic ballot question means anything. At the end of the day its specific canidates running against eachother. Everyone hates congress in general but THEIR guy is ok because be promises them candy at the expense of everyone else. How else do you explain Bawney Fwank?
