Huffington Post goes crazy over Tiller murder and virtually ignores Army recruiter murder

Private William Long. Long may his memory live.

We signed up for the Huffington Post’s Daily Briefs email list a few months ago. To the best of our recollection, while we receive their Daily Briefs, we’ve never received an “Alert” until May 31, when we received this one:

ALERT: Abortion Doctor Murdered At Kansas Church

Oddly enough, no such email alert was sent out the next day for this similar story:

Carlos Bledsoe, Muslim Convert Opposed To US Military, Shot And Killed Army-Navy Recruiter

It struck us as rather selective outrage, but we wanted to be certain before we made any wild, unsubstantiated accusations. So we went to HuffingtonPost.com and used its search function to compare the number of stories on the two murders. There were a least a hundred hits for stories referencing George Tiller’s murder. We say at least, because we stopped counting at that point as the list just kept going and going and going. We have no idea how many more there were.

Then we did another search to see how many references we could find on the Arkansas recruiter murder. Eight. That’s all. Eight. And no, we didn’t search for very specific words like “Abdul Hakim Mujahid Muhammad” or “Carlos Bledsoe.” We erred on the side of caution and performed very loose searches.

While it’s not an exact science, the results were clear: Far more than a hundred Tiller references, but just eight on the Arkansas recruiter (let’s give the poor, ignored guy a name–William Long) murder.

For further study, we then went to Google and did an advanced “site search” where you can search for words found on just a particular site, posted within a specified date range, and various other boolean search criteria. We searched just the HuffingtonPost.com website. The closest date range we could use was “past week.” Close enough.

The results were startling, but we’re not going to publish them because there are too many variables that can get called into question with the search terms. But we ask you to do to your own searches: go to Google, click on Advanced Search, enter “HuffingtonPost.com” into the search site field, set the date range, and try some of your own searches. Remember if you are putting two words together like William Long, they have to be keyed as “William Long” or it will search for William OR long, which will skew the results. Let us know what you find out.

But we did do two simple searches we will tell you about. We simply searched the the Huffingtonpost.com site for “George Tiller” and then for “William Long.” The results were 12,900 pages for George Tiller, but just 6 for William Long.

We understand the George Tiller was more well known than William Long, but Good God, can we honor Private Long just a bit more?

Our conclusion? Huffington Post has a genetic predisposition against the pro-life position. But they seem to have an equally strong pre-dispositon to ignore news that casts Muslims in a negative light.

  • I'm sorry Kate, but the murder of a soldier by a muslim terrorist on US soil is news. Please tell me where else and how often this has occurred.

  • It does seem that this very sad case of murder is being underreported. However, that is likely because Tiller's murder has sparked a new debate over abortion, a very hot topic right now. Also, George Tiller was more well known than this private. The murder of a person who served our country by a Muslim isn't very unusual (however tragic) and doesn't grab headlines as well.

  • i didnt hear about this BS until yesterday

but we really shouldnt expect anything from these idiots im sure they probably hate you for not alerting them about the abortion guy.

i wouldnt dare click on that link, for fear of infesting my macbook with smug internet AIDS, did they mention the good doctor was of the late term variety? it somehow makes his death a little less, erm, horrible.

Private. William Long has just been added to my list of soldiers who were killed in the fight against terrorism, make no mistake, this killer is just as bad as any sand rat in gitmo.

  • "Huffington Post has a genetic predisposition against the pro-life position."
That's probably because the pro-choice contingent never resorted to murder, intimidation, harassment, terrorism or disinformation campaigns, fighting their battles in the courts like decent Americans do. And *winning* honorably.
Not to be confused with whining. It's settled law, it's not getting overturned. get over it.
Shame how HuffPo could ignore that story. Oh, wait...

Arkansas Military Recruiter Killed Outside Office, Second Soldier Woundedhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/01/arkansas-military-recruit_n_209886.html

Yeah, look how HuffPo spiked that story. Shameful.
    Even 'virtually' is a stretch.
I guess the entire national media have an abortion-centric agenda since every media outlet in the country have balanced the two stories similarly, though I can't claim to have checked some of the hamster-cage liners such as the NY Post.

    Another teabag?

    • While there is no doubt that extremists in the pro-life camp have done some horrendous things, let us consider this:
Medically speaking, a person who (a) has a heartbeat and (b) has a functioning brain is considered alive. Interestingly enough, an unborn child, or "fetus" as pro-choicers call them, has a heartbeat and a functioning brain at 8 weeks into their growth in the womb. The EARLIEST abortions do not take place until 12 weeks into the growth process.
Who, between the pro-life extremists and the pro-abortion supporters, has murdered more?

Oh, and since you clearly weren't paying attention to what the article was saying, the whole point was that Pvt. Long's death only got a TINY bit of attention compared to the death of Dr. Tiller, not that it didn't get any.

  • "Muslim apology tour"

What could there possibly be to apologize for? Can't imagine.
Oh right, transforming the middle east into a giant cesspool of destruction, anger and despair with a trillion dollars in US taxpayers' cash, and destroying the global economy in only eight years. Gotta love those responsible, security-conscious 'fiscal conservatives'.
Too bad they won't be in power again in my lifetime because that made for some engaging TV.

    • Bush did not represent fiscal conservatism. His - and the Republican party's - rejection of sound capitalism in support of "compassionate conservatism" sped the economy's downward spiral. And why the partisan bickering? Who controlled Congress all that time?

Obama is a naked socialist and does not identify with the American principle of individual rights. As a result, it is only fitting that he apologize for a country he's been ashamed of his whole life.

  • President President puts Huffpo in the front row at a WH presser and they think they are journalists now! As if.

This wasn't a murder, folks. This was a victim of a terrorist attack, the first [known] terror attack under the 0bama administration. And the CinC doesn't even have it together enough to issue a statement to the troops, much less the general public.

0bama doesn't want any Muslim feathers ruffled before his Muslim apology tour speech tomorrow.

The terrorist got his apartment and computer checked out by the Feds, and they found plans for a post office, a synagogue and a child care center on his PC. This wasn't some lone wolf, he had plans and he had the ammo to carry it out.

    Let Huffpo explain that.

  • The HuffPo is nothing more than a used piece of toilet paper on the bathroom floor.
