James Carville thinks we may have riots in the streets

james carville

James Carville is the Democrat political strategist who coined the phrase “It’s the economy, stupid.”

When he gets that Cajun accent going we only understand about half of what he says. But we understood every word when he told Don Imus that he’s worried that extended unemployment may cause civil unrest, which is merely a euphemism for riots in the streets. And that, he says, may have a destabilizing effect on American politics.

Of course, it might be wise to keep in mind that when Carville speaks of destabilization of American politics, he means Democrats may get voted out of office.

“It is going to be very difficult,” Carville said. “But the country, if that is what we are doing, this is gruesome on people. This unemployment rate for this long is humanitarian crisis of the first magnitude. This financial crisis, people have studied this by the way, they know that the things take this long to work their way through. The aftermath of these things — kind of an academic book that is dry entitled ‘This Time is Different.’ What it concluded it is not different this time. They studied it, the aftermath of the financial crisis. What we are going through is imminently predictable. But this is a terrible thing that has happened to people’s lives. I think the president at one level understands that, you know. But he is limited in what he can do. So we’ll just have to see. But it’s going to be hard. If 54,000 jobs is the new norm – this is going to be very, very tough. Some people say it just might be one more thing. We don’t know.”

But Carville said the consequences aren’t limited to politics alone. He warned of heighten risk of civil unrest with the bleak economic picture.

“You know, look – this is a humanitarian — you know, you’re smart enough to see this,” Carville said. “People, you know, if it continues, we’re going to start to see civil unrest in this country. I hate to that, but I think it’s [eminently] possible.”

Translation: Riot all you want when Republicans are in office. But hell’s bells, people, don’t do it when a Democrat is sitting in the Oval Office.

    • He also said he was for the ballot over the gun untill he got the guns, then he was for the gun over the ballot.

  • A couple of years ago, he was writing books about Democrats ruling for 40 years (or was it a "Thousand Year Reich"? No wait, that was the other socialists.) Now, he's worried about riots in the streets. Gosh, if I didn't know better I'd say Jimmy is a little disappointed in the naked emperor.

    • He probably is, but he just can't bring himself to say it. These thieves are so circumspect, just get to the point...idiot!

  • Carville, what a feckless useless piece of flesh flailing about in a failed attempt to find significance and relevance. These tools are attempting to set the stage for the very thing they really have no control of if and when it kicks off! I hope for nothing less than mass rioting during Obama's presidency, it'll serve these traitorous bastards right to have their gizzards served to them via mob justice. Bring it on!

    • Hisham please stop internalizing your opinions it is not good for you! Please let all out, tell us how you really feel about Carville. LOL!

I do think that he is worried that Democrats will never gain access to the White House for decades to come. He is not happy about Obamie, that much I know. If anything whatever happens, happens. It is just a matter of being ready.

  • If any "revolutions" happen it won't be out here in the sticks, it will be on the inner city streets where people have no idea of how to take care of themselves. We country boys have, and can, survive and we always will.

In the immortal words of Hank Williams Jr. "We can skin a buck, run a trot line, a country boy can survive"!

  • The revolution is already happening by ballot... not bullets. The Left lost badly in November 2010 and they know it deep down in their knowers.

Note some stories concerning Socialist and Marxist activists calling for uprisings (http://www.theblaze.com/?s=piven). I believe they are trying to create the chaos by which the Obama administration, governors and mayors will be forced to declare martial law then do whatever they please with the citizens. It won't work. when left-wing radicals finally take to the streets, and the rest of us shrug, yawn and stay home, all 12 of them will be hauled off and that will be that. Then, the next election cycle, the Right will continue gaining ground we lost because of neo-Con Republican schmucks.

Whew! I've been dying to get that off my chest.

    • You should, because he may still be the sharpest political mind on the left. Yeah, he may come off like a goofy looking, goofy sounding pundit, & he is some of that. But he is still a great political mind. I don't agree with him much, but he is 1 of the few on the left who I take very seriously.

  • The Louisiana Lip just keeps stir the shit kettle. He needs to place a call to barry (still doing it) and inform him not the average working American. We are fully aware of the under tow that is out here.

If there is unrest in the streets that will be just the opportunity for the communist in the white house to declare marital law and suspend the constitution.

    • Paden, not really. It's almost always the left that conducts civil unrest. Riots are over 99% leftist based, but those who don't agree with them are the problem.

    • Whenever I see a liberal politician talking gun control, I see someone who is scared of an uprising.
