Jimmy Carter’s bucket list apparently includes failing in every country in the world, so he’s working diligently to check off the few remaining nations that were missing.
Cuba? Check.
The Associated Press reports Carter’s latest success at failing:
Former President Jimmy Carter met with a jailed American contractor before leaving Cuba on Wednesday but said Cuban leaders had made it clear they do not plan to release him.
The announcement was a disappointment to supporters of Alan Gross after the trip had raised expectations the 86-year-old former American president would be allowed to bring the Maryland native home. Gross is serving a 15-year sentence after being convicted earlier this month of bringing communications equipment into Cuba illegally.
State Department officials have said privately that Cuban authorities indicated they might release Gross on humanitarian grounds following the trial. But Carter said that from the very beginning, he knew Gross would not be freed during the visit.
“The Cuban officials made it very clear to me before I left my home that the freedom of Alan Gross would not be granted.”
In other words, Carter knew his mission would fail, but went to Cuba anyway? Yeah, right.
Carter also sat down Wednesday with revolutionary icon Fidel Castro, a day after holding talks with President Raul Castro.
“We welcomed each other as old friends,” Carter said of the meeting with the 84-year-old former Cuban leader.
This is the only part of this story that makes sense to us. My god, those two evil old sons of bitches deserve each other.

I think we should leave the most important decisions to be made by the Cuban people themselves because otherwise we may easily be accused of hypocrisy by Castro and his aides. There definitely should be more openness between the two countries but Carter's visit seems a bit pointless to me.
This whole thing intrigues me. I mean, I know that Communists and Socialists like to find them some "Useful Idiots". What the heck do they want with a "Useless Idiot", and more importantly, if we give them fifty cents, will they keep him?

The amusing thought is that somebody should have loaded his bags with old radio and computer parts, and he could have gotten arrested for spying instead of that poor man that tried to help the jewish community get online there.

Of course he and Fidel are buddies, Fidel emptied the Cuban prisons and mental hospitals and Carter welcomed them with open arms.
