From what I can find out about the bill one of the big sticking points, and it is a lulu, is the reduction in import taxes.
We no longer have an American made car in this country, they are American assembled. Ford, GM, Crysler, Toyota, all of them manufacture the majority of their components in Canada, Japan, Mexico, Korea and China them import those parts here for assembly. A decrease in import taxes would put hundreds of millions in car company pockets but would do nothing to help the American worker.
Another good example is Nike. All those $200 sneakers so many think so much about are manufactured in China and Viet Nam then they are imported here. A reduction in the import tax will put who knows how many millions into the corporate pockets but it will do nothing to help the American worker.
In fact, from what little I have been able to find out, this bill will end up hurting us. If it is more profitable for a major manufacturer to move jobs overseas because of lower import taxes then who is to say they won't? With a lower import tax it may be cheaper to move their manufacturing jobs to foreign countries instead of paying American workers to do the job. And there are NO GUARENTEES in this bill to ensure that will not happen.
As much as I dislike Dirty Harry, on this one he may be right. This bill can have devastating effects on the American economy and our workers. Especially if the Obummer gets the "fast track" option he wants, which will allow him to negotiate these trade deals without Congrassional approval.
You can bet that the reduction in import taxes won't be reflected in the ticket price on these items!
Meanwhile Micth is sending love notes to Obama and telling the republicans to support this. If Obama has anything to do with it, and since it is being kept secret, you know it is a big bag of dog crap.
I wish the rinos were smart enough to stay out of this fight and let Lizziehontas spearhead the resistance. They're not tho. Guess who will get the partisan politics label shoved up their ass over this issue? Again...
In general I'm all in favor of free trade, but if BO is talking this up then there is something wrong with it. Perhaps some of the stalwart newshounds at ABC or CNN or WaPo could do some investigating and give us all the straight skinny.
