Here is a new idea, why doesn't Government Motors bail Detroit out! We gave them billions of dollars, now they are supposedly making billions of dollars, let them help the city they claim to have put on the map.

The one that got me was No. 13, the city relies heavily on taxes from the casinos in the city. In such a poor city, with so many dependent on welfare, who wants to bet where most of that welfare money is going? Only a flippin', stupid liberal would think gambling halls will help any economy. Technically they're right that this bankruptcy is unconstitutional as all of Detriot's debt is in fiat currency, it would have to be gold or silver based debt to be constitutional.

Crowley your theory is BS. Bankruptcy allows them to negotiate debts, renegotiate union contracts and pensions, eliminate debts, refinance loans, etc. Any money due will still be paid in US currency. What do you think they're going to do pay it in beads moron?
It's not constitutionally supported debt. All the debt they've accrued was from fiat Federal Reserve notes, and like the constitution says in my quote above, Federal Reserve notes are not an acceptable form of currency exchange.
In 1871, in the case of Knox v. Lee, the Supreme Court settled the matter by declaring that making United States notes legal tender was indeed constitutional. Read it and weep.
Well they never added it to the constitution, it being the highest level document in our law system overrides it. Besides, you say those were United States notes NOT Federal Reserve notes so they were still backed by gold back then (and even made out of gold in terms of coinage).

Still this ruling did nothing to mention Federal Reserve notes, and the very idea of a private central bank is highly unconstitutional and something that all the founding fathers were against. The United States notes and Greenbacks you're talking about were issued solely by the government and were free of any private corruption. I just explained how your example is not even close to how Federal Reserve notes work, which are debt based. The fact that they are based on debt makes them nearly impossible to pay off. Which is Detroit's problem.

Even if they were fiat, greenbacks are nothing like Federal Reserve notes and infact are the exact opposite because they preserved debt free money rather then selling out to private banks at high interests rates. Fiat can work if it is not build on debt like the Fed is, but it rarely happens because of greed from private banks. Hence why greenbacks were only used briefly during the civil war and promptly halted after the war was paid off.
A good portion of Detroit's debt is nothing but interest on the Fed's fiat notes, which was nothing like Greenbacks.

Regarding all US currency being backed by gold the first FIAT US currency was issued between 1775 and 1791. The federal reserve didn't come about until 1913. Not to mention the aforementioned greenbacks were also FIAT currency again issued before the central bank started. You flunk English and reading comprehension? What the hell is your point? The federal government, through the use of the Federal Reserve's FRNs, issues a common currency per Article 1 Section 8.
